Finding that elusive DPP mid/forward rookie

Personally I think it's critical to have a link into the forward line, unfortunately the cheap options in Garlett, Honeychurch & Taylor are looking doubtful from the outset. Casting an eye further down the list and one name popped out at me - Sam Blease.

There's a few things going for Sam, one he plays rounds 8 & 9 and will be extremely helpful in addressing any shortfalls during the bye carnage. I had a close look at him on Friday and despite not touching the ball a huge amount, he looked to be in good nick and could well be Melbourne's genuine line breaker.

Blease's stats over the past few years haven't been amazing but he can go large on the odd occasion with his top 3 scores being 121, 115, 104 over the course of his 31 games.

Job security is far from being confirmed but I think he's worth monitoring over the next few weeks. If it looks as though Roos will give him an early shot, then the $179,000 price tag might be worth it.

The thing to watch about Blease will be how vesty he is.
By the scores and disposals from 2013, looks like he was the green vest nearly every game he played. And he is one of those stereotypical skinny fast guys that get vested non-stop.

Only getting 6 disposals against Richmond isn't a great start. He's going to have to go bananas at some stage to push him into the best 21.

Polec is deceiving as most of Ports best players aren`t playing so its too hard to tell if he will be just as good when they are playing a full squad.
