I have 1086k for 2 premium defenders.

My defense is currently:

______ ,  ________ ,  Hurn, Swallow, Suckling, McDonald (Laidler, Fuller)

As of 5 minutes ago I had locked in Mitchell and Hanley. Now after looking into it a bit I am sitting with McVeigh and Henderson. Help me out boys! (and girls?)  :-\

Either of McVeigh/Mitchell with Simpson
Shaw has a tendency to miss games and is an unknown quantity at GWS, Hanley is likely to cop more attention and doesn't handle the tag and Henderson is short changing yourself.

Hendo was shaping up as a bit of a POD but is becoming common now. Smitch and either Hanley or Simpson. I think Smitch will be no.1 defender this year, McVeigh will be up there too. But I'm not much help as I have all 4 (McVeigh, Smitch, Simpson and Hanley) so I think you want them all :P

I have all 3 of Mitchell, McVeigh and Hanley.
If you only want 2, go for Mitchell/Hanley for me.

Has anyone got a valid reason for Mitchell over McVeigh?

McVeigh ended the season with a 112.8 average over his last 10 games (inc finals) and when he was tagged during the year (7 times) still averaged 95.8.

Mitchell on the other hand was tagged 3 times for an average of 76  :o and managed to average 101.9 over his past 10 games (inc finals as well)

So McVeigh is younger and his back end of 2012 was much more favourable. He is also equally (if not slightly more) durable. Why not pick him?

The thing that sticks out for me is that McVeigh is reliable but has only ever averaged over 100 last year where Mitchell has only not gone over 100 once since 2005

You would expect Mitchell to have more midfield time than McVeigh, and more mid time tends to equate to more fantasy points, hence why most people would prefer him. Also McVeigh has never averaged over 100 in a full season I believe whereas Mitchell has most years for a while now, so is a safer bet to average 100+.

Can you afford Mitchell and Simpson?

Henderson injury interrupted preseason.

Hanley smashed until opponents took notice and tagged him out of the game.

Simpson - you get consistency which is just about all you can hope for from a fantasy back line.

What are your guys thoughts on Hibberd? Could be a nice POD

Bully

Check Hanley's draw, from my perspective it will be tough going.

Simpson & Hibberd for me, McVeigh & Mitchell are both upgrade targets.
