Is anyone concerned by the lack of backline rookies?

This seems to be the most difficult aspect of finalising my side, guys like Fuller, Laidler, Georgiou & Cutler seem a bit iffy and I'm preparing for the prospect of paying overs for a decent benchwarmer. KK seems the obvious choice but I can't bring myself to spend so much on a first year defender. Is anyone considering going for an extra midpricer at D6?

It is of slight concern. But its early days of the NAB Challenge, no time for panic stations yet. I also can't bring myself to spend that sort of coin on a first year player. I've locked in Fuller. But we'll just have to be patient and hopefully some come up. There is always some surprises come round 1.

I'm a little bit worried. I'm just really hoping that some of the $117,300 or less rookies show something during NAB and are named round 1.

At the moment I don't have any expensive rookies in my whole backline so if I need to bring one or more in then it's going to throw the rest of my team out completely.

Still a long way to go til round 1 so plenty of time for some cheapies to put their hand up.

Apart from waiting for Rd.1 selections the only thing you can really do is to make your draft team as flexible as possible
to change. I have about 25 print outs of teams I've settled on for any period of time and every time something stumps me I just look through them to see what variables jump out at me. That's how I'm dealing with it. Cheers.  ::)

Very. But everyones in the same boat i guess. Lets just wait for rd 1 and hope for the best. Interesting season coming up i think!

We've all got these issues I think, but I've been interested this year by the number of people saying things like "that's too much money on the bench" (McDonald + K.Kolo are my D6/D7) or "I'm not going to spend that on a rookie"... Ok, well if my too much money on the bench is playing, vs your cheap guy who isn't, I know which one I'd rather be...

I think people might have to get used to the idea that there may only be a handful of players across all positions who will actually play at the 117-123k price point. Much safer options JS wise around the ~200k mark. A few good years of GCS/GWS players and look what happens!

As Mugatu in Zoolander said, "He's absolutely right!"

If your bench players ain't playing their values aren't increasing, if their values aren't increasing then how are you supposed to trade up premiums?

The only acceptable place on your team to cop rookie donuts is R3/R4

IMO KK and Mcdonald will play rd1. Cutler did good last night in a half of footy.

Apart from those 3 wait and see who pops up and impresses

Very true start making a plan B team which will probably means downtrading some dearer players that you wanted to cheaper options might be the same in the forwards as well

It's been my A team all along ;) that way it means my B team can only have more prems!

Very worried. I have been saying it all preseason, if you are thinking about fielding two rookies in defence this year you will find yourself in a bit of trouble. The only rookie I'm actually confident should get consistent games is Fuller. I'm even considering having Suckling at D6...

GCSkiwi

Yeah with Bob Murphy now injured Fuller should be a little more bankable. You don't see LMac and KKolo getting regular time?

Ricochet

I LMac getting vested quite a lot and not confident Kolo will get 6+ games in a row

johns_23

Ive only got 1 rookie starting on the field (LMac) ATM the rest should play every week (Mitchell, K.Simpson, A.Swallow, Hurn,Suckling). With KK and Fuller as bench. Little worried, Hopefully that works for me, but im fairly happy at this stage.

Similar to me (couple of different prems but Suckers, LMac, KKolo and Fuller are my D5,6,7 and 8). I'm not sure it will get much better! Possibly some of the Essendon boys but who knows.

Yeah vest does worry me. I'm not so concerned if they miss a game (provided I can cover it) but vests kill their profits... Like Kane Mitchell last year, how good could he have been playing full games??
