Brodie Grundy and Sandi

Why is everyone going with this combination?? Nothing against it but why? Grundy has never tonned up and sandi can get injured at any time..surely its to risky?

Don't understand the Grundy love either. Think he will average 85 at best.
Sandi on the other hand is a proven premium at a bargain price. Only needs to last until the byes to make a stack of cash

I have nothing to add to this thread except I love the title Grundilands.

haha quality. Could b a kids novel

This. Grundy is not going to be bringing out premium scores, so I really don't see the point in starting him. Sandi on the other hand is a proven scorer and as long as he plays games at the start of the season, he will score enough to make plenty of cash to be swapped for a more stable premium ruck.

Sorry if it may have looked like i was saying that sandi was a bad pick..i have him in R2 but with a proven premo in nic nat as R2 :)

If I was an opposition coach I'd be targeting Grundy for extra "treatment" because of the black hole of suck behind him in the depth chart. He might be in for a battering this year

Collingwood look like they are going to be relying on Grundy very heavily. I know the have Hudson and Witts but it doesn't look great putting so much onto a second year player who hasn't played many games. His natural aggression puts him into some dangerous spots too.

Everyone's on board with Grundilands for afew reasons..

Sandi's dirt cheap for a ruckman capable of big scores if he stays on the park.

Grundy is now Collingwoods No 1 ruck, should see plenty of game time, and has the added bonus of being cheap $$.

Coaches are opting for this POTENTIALLY solid scoring cheap ruck combo due to the high price on rookies this year and the lack of confidence in picking the right gun rookies on the other lines.

It's simply a case of wanting to save cash in the rucks for the security of being able to pick an extra premo or two elsewhere.

The Grundilands Combo would on paper seem to be a safe cheap ruck bet.. Time will tell??

The obvious danger is overlooking the tried and true PREMO Ruck Combo which seems to have been a no brainer past seasons.

In truth i have this combination at the moment because i can't decide on which 450K + ruck i should go with,
don't wanna spend 550-600k for a keeper as i feel i will lack in other areas and i am not having any trouble finding players i like on other lines,i do however have dixon to back sandilands up which i believe is a must.
Its a pattern for me as i have also gone cheap in the rucks the previous 2 years ,1 premo 3 rookies.
can only see Jacobs and Lobbe in the price range i am willing to spend at the moment and i will be happy with a 80-85 ave from grundy and a 50k-100k profit when i upgrade him..Sandilands would be first upgraded anyway.(kinda assuming he wont get to R10 and figure he might not even get named R1)

Wish i had more sound logic but its GRUNDILANDS for now.

Basically it is quite simple.  You need to save cash somewhere.  Rookie prices are up, and with GC & GWS no longer fielding a team of rookies, job security for rookies is not as good.  The rucks have a few good mid pricers with value.  In the case of Grundy his job security is excellent and based on last nights performance should average 80-100.  At worst he will make quick cash to allow you to upgrade to a falling premium.  Sandilands is a proven premium who has had injury concerns, but based on his finals series last year can go big if he keeps his body right.

To be honest I'm not sure if getting a "premium" ruck is really worth it.  Rucks have proved in the past unreliable, with the starting must have $600k+ ruckman changing every year, and many lack durability.  Better off saving money in this line and getting that extra premium back, forward or midfielder who are generally safer bets.  Then I can have a good look at who are the must have rucks and if need be upgrade Sandi & Grundy down the track.

I don't think anyone on here intends to pick Grundy as a keeper, it's just that he is guaranteed to play as #1 ruck, and is underpriced. Hopefullly he has a good run early and makes us some money.  For me he will feature in my first ugrade/downgrade trade pair if all goes to plan. Sandi will get a fairly big say in this (at least his "turf toe" does anyway!)

For me, I can't see why anyone is considering Longer.  There's a bloke called Hickey who already has that #1 ruck slot.

100% agree with the longer comment. He looked very average in the intra club last w/e while hickey killed it

people saying Sandi is a proven scorer need to consider some things

yes he was 2 tears ago but for the last 2 years he has been riddled with injuries and is 2 years older

not only that they will manage him to get him through to the finals subbing him off early any chance they get they do have Clarke and eventually Griffin they don't need to risk Sandi

sure he might make it to the bye rounds but sub affected i think will average like 80-85
