Hey lads,

I'm very interested to see how you are all structuring your midfields as the NAB Challenge gets under way.

One approach I'm really liking is 4 premiums and 4 rookies. Mainly since there are so many excellent mid rookies this season, and not as many around the ground.

Currently this what I'm toying with:

Ablett, Pendlebury, Watson, D. Beams, Martin, C. Beams, Sheed, Dunstan.

To add to those rookies you also have the likes of Michie, Tyson, Polec, Aish, Ellis, Cripps, Billings, Morabito, O'Rourke, etc that can be thrown in if named round 1.

Missing out on Daisy also allows me to have 4 premium backs and forwards, plus skipping him may be a nice POD?

How are you guys lining up? Any of you planning to take full advantage of these midfield rookies too?

Pretty nice set-up, will be a relatively popular one. I've gone for 5 premo's and 3 rookies. I have opted for Murphy over Thomas, expecting him to bounce back. But yeh, the midfield is the most important line, I've gone as heavy as I see possible this year in the hope to get off to a quality start.

Hydra

I like your structure.

Mine is similar, except I do have Thomas in my starting 8.

Ablett, Pendlebury, Rockliff, D Beams, Thomas, Martin, C Beams, Michie (Sheed, Dunstan)

I like the idea of buying the higher priced rookies as it appears at this stage that they will be getting the games.

Polec, Cripps and Ellis are other good choices.

I'm hoping Thomas can crack a tonne average this year. If he does then that will make investment in Thomas more worthwhile than any rookie I reckon.

Ricochet

Gone for a lot of under pricers but still spent a bit in there

Mines currently Ablett, Rocky, Murphy, Beams, Thomas, Savage, JMartin, Sheed (Ellis, Dunstan)

Ringo

Mine currently is Ablett, Pendles, Rocky, Beams, Thomas, Martin, Tyson, Dunstan, Gordon and Honeychurch, With the last 5 subject to change based on NAB Cup so my structure is 4 prems 1 mid pricer and 3 rookies.

T Dog

Currently have Ablett, Pendles, Swan, Beames, Martin, McDonald, Tyson, Michie, ( Dunstan and Honeychurch)

McDonald and Honeychurch are my swingmen. The no Daisy gives me 1 rookie on field in both Backs and Forwards.
4 keepers..no trades to upgrade. Just need to select the right rookies of course.

Yikes! Glad we're not playing in the same league Ringo!

I like this setup. have been thinking along these lines. 2 swingmen DPP if they play will be gold. Only problem is mid weakened by 1 premium but hopefully make up for it on other lines and having swingmen

I'm guessing you've factored this in but I'm scared that you M1-M6 all share a round 8 bye...

Thats another 7 rounds away for me GC. I let the byes distract my team selection last year and things went pear shaped for them anyway. This year I am starting with the keepers I want on all lines except rucks....risky I know but thats my plan.. ???

My first six at the moment are actually identical to this. Then I've gone for Dunstan and some cheap rookies.

Savage could become Jack Martin if Martin shows enough during NAB.

Fair enough T Dog, I had the same experience last year so get where you're coming from.

timtim

Gaz, Pendles, Jobe, Murphy, Beams, Thomas, Martin, Sheed (Dunstan, Langdon)

5 premos
1 mid-price
4 rookies (one of which is more for DEF DPP swing)

There are a lot of decent rookies in MID, but are all way too expensive to make significant cash on all of them.

Thoughts? Am I too top heavy?

Typhnn

I'm running very similar to you timtim...  I also agree most mids are a bit over priced...   but still not 100% set....

Mat0369

I was looking at my mates team the other day and his midfield looked ridiculous

Ablett, Pendles, Watson, Rockliff, Beams, Beams, Michie, Ellis, Duntsan, Taylor

His forward line is a bit weak but considering the plethora of forwards under 300k he can probably get away with it.
