Risky Rucks?

Missed all of the Ruck carnage last year so am taking a risk this year. At this stage am going to start with Sandilands and H-Mac as R1 and R2. At the moment I only have Currie and Thurlow on the bench but I feel if I run with Sandi and H-Mac I need more cover on my bench and as there are no rookie rucks likely to start in round 1 the best option seems to be Longer. Is Billy a must if I run with Sandi and H-Mac?

So far both are in my team. If they get game time in the pre season and are named round 1, they'll be in my side. Fingers crossed they last at least 6-8 rounds to increase in value.

yeah if you're running this setup ya probably need a longer/daw on the bench or dixon up forward with a DPP ruck rookie

Yeh got lucky with the Rucks last year and don't want to push my luck too much this year.

U sir have hit the nail on the head. What's the point of getting HMac/sandi and saving money if u just end up spending most of it on Longer? Either back thenm and be prepared to trade or just get  someone more durable.

Yeh agree with u but it's just as security for a rest or injury. The main thing is the 100k I'll save by going with rooks more important then the security of a trade if one of the big boys go down.

With SC I always lock a premo Ruck in from rd 1.
Sandi and Hmac would be a huge risk and reward.

I posted this in another thread regarding the rucks and since I am lazy I am just going to copy and paste it

Name a ruck other then Dean Cox over the last 4 seasons that has had a really good SC season and then backed it up the following year?

So unless your name is Dean Cox in the last 5 years I would not be paying top dollar for a ruck in SC. Sandilands is about the only guy you could have argued for in that time frame and he has had his own injury issues. All the value rucks have come in at under 500k the last few seasons. The 'warhorse' guys like Goldstein, Minson, Mummy, Maric, Jacobs and co that have rucked alone for extended periods of the season have flopped the year after.

I think going cheap is the right option, but I personally would not go with both HMac and Sandi since both have injury issues and there are a couple of guys in the price bracket just above (Lobbe being the main one) that look really appealing as breakout contenders.

If you go in without the cover then be ready to either sideways trade to Hickey, Grundy or Longer, or trade Dixon in the moment things look dicey. I'm personally only going to carry Sandi but will leave enough cash to sideways to Hmac if Sandi looks to be struggling early on. I wouldn't worry too much because everyone is in the same boat with rucks, very few will have decent cover in the early stages.

Yeh agree as most will be running with Sandi or H-Mac so would be good to have that security incase something were to happen.
