2016 Maca Medallist:

Winner: Heath Shaw

Shaw capped of a great year by taking home the Maca Medal! Heater averaged an impressive 106 points per a game (was a lot higher than this at one stage!), to become one of the premier defenders in the competition. Heater was especially dominant during round 5-9 where he polled a possible 21/25 votes which included 4 best on ground performances! But he did poll votes in 11 games, so it did show he also had a consistent year! Congratulations on a great year Heater! 8)

Two 200 point performances in a single season for a single team for two different blokes - not half bad!
Isn't it! And a 150+ to go with them too

Mexico City Awards 2017:

Most Improved:

Winner: James Sicily

Sicily has taken his game to another level since making his move to defence, averaging 89 since moving there after the bye. Sicily's versatility has been vital to Mexico City, as he provided a handy forward replacement for the injured 2015 'Maca Medallist' Brett Deledio for most of the season, however expect him to spend more time in defence next season.

Sicily beat other contenders Billy Longer and Ben Cunnington.

Best First Year Player:

Winner: Nic Newman

Mature aged rookie Nic Newman has made an impact in his first season of senior football averaging 86 to make him one of the first picked in the side each week. Newman has so far played 15 games and looks set to be a key part of the team going forward.

Newman beat other contenders Lewis Melican and Ivan Soldo.

Coaches Award:

Winner: Nic Newman

Newman has been one of the coaches' favourites (unlike at the Swans) since joining the Suns with pick 34 in the 2014 rookie draft. Newman finally repaid the coaches' faith averaging 86, including 10 games where he scored over 80 points. Newman stood up earning himself a spot in defence alongside veterans Heath Shaw and Kade Simpson and looks set to be a regular for the Suns defence in the years to come.

Newman beat other contenders Trent Cotchin, Billy Longer and James Sicily.

Best Performance:

Winner: Tom Rockliff

Rockliff wins back to back best performances, showcasing his ability to pull out these massive scores. Rocky amassed a massive 176 by picking up 33 disposals, 8 marks and 11 tackles to lead from the front in a big win against Tokyo in round four.

Top three performances of 2017:
1st. Tom Rockliff 176 Points - Round 4 v Tokyo
2nd. Nick Riewoldt 161 Points - Round 3 v Cairo
3rd. Nic Newman 151 Points - Round 8 v Dublin

2017 Maca Medallist:

Winner: Trent Cotchin

After finishing runner up to Heath Shaw last year, Cotch went one better this season to take home the 2017 Maca Medal. Cotchin had a consistent year averaging 103 and polling in 14/17 games, making him a viable captain option each week, especially in the absence of Tom Rockliff.

Congratulations on a great year Cotch! 8)  :-* :-*

Great to see JROO!

Bloody Newman. I remember when you guys got CEY & Oxley in their breakout years from absolutely nowhere... also noticed Melican from afar.

haha can pick them!

It'd be an interesting exercise to see which team is the home of breakouts
Of NDT's current list could probably only say these 4
Ross, Lloyd, MCrouch, JCameron

So similar to Mexico

Also, holy shower, totally did not know that Papley was averaging 81

Ones for the future

Jack Graham - has made his way into Richmond's 22, scoring 87 and 76 in his first two senior games and looks to be a future fantasy gun

James Sicily - started the season slowly averaging 53 until his move to defence, where Sicily averaged 91 in the second half of the year

Billy Longer - it also took Longer a while to get going averaging 52 in his first give games. But since that point he relished as the #1 big man at the Saints averaging 88 from round 10 onward

Nic Newman - averaged 86 (taking out injury affected game) in his first year of senior football, and even though he is a little older, Newman is set to be a key part of the Suns' rebuild

While it's sad to see Mexico City champion Tom Rockliff leave, we would officially like to welcome Christian Petracca to the club  8)
