Is Pendlebury a MUST?

Why fap about when you get one of if  not the best and forget obout him for the year unless he brakes his leg again. But he's to expensive they say blah blah blah. Same thing happens with yablett every year, come mid season their all scrambling to work him into their sides.

Taking gaz over pendles, feel u need to start one of the pair,
will have both by seasons end im sure,im going on nothing but a gut feeling that i'll be able to pick pendles up
around r9 for cheaper than i would gaz.
I know pendles has a proven track record against the tougher teams but this year im not so sure....

not picking him makes the captain's loophole a bit more unpredictable, however picking a player who plays round 8 & 9 could make up for the lost points from rounds 2-7 (assuming Crowley does another blanket job).

So let's assume Pendles averages 120 for the 7 rounds, that would be an extra 100 points (maximum) on a player like Jack or Watson, and that's assuming these blokes don't score too heavily themselves.

Then there's the round 8 bye, most of the points would be made up given Pendles is out. One may be able to field a complete team, but a rookies score could be as low as 50, Watson or Jack could pull out a 130.

Pendles then comes in round 9, hopefully at a 50k discount, and hopefully, the extra 100k you initially saved has not only brought in extra points, but can also be cashed in with interest. The money could be the difference between a Markworth/ Kersten versus a Higgins / Fasolo / Mitch Clark.

Leaving Pendles out is a ballsy move, but there's definitely method behind the madness.

Comes down to GAJ v Pendles for me and GAJ is underpriced in my book with a greater scoring potential. Was an easy choice

Prediction..Watson will average about the same as Pendlebury up to the R8 bye.

Pendlebury = LOCK LOCK LOCK

Ablett = LOCK LOCK LOCK  (Still the highest average and will be up there again)

They will share the captaincy all year and build the rest of the team around them..

Holz is spot on too.. Pendlebury scores against good opposition, infact against all opposition.

I expect he will also flourish with the captaincy.. Absolute Champion and worth every cent !! 8)

Like many have suggested, Pendlebury is definitely part of the furniture but it becomes a question of when. Missing round 8 is a pretty big handicap IMO. When others are fielding Jack, Fyfe, Kennedy, Watson, Barlow & Rocky, you will be fielding a rookie.

And don't forget, Pendles goes up against Crowley in round 1. Based on last years scores here's how it could pan out.

vs Freo (96)
vs Sydney (150 & 119=134.5)
vs Geel (118)
vs Rich (105)
vs Nth (160 & 157=158.5)
vs Ess (136 & 105=120.5)
vs Carl (154 & 121=137.5)

Average=124

So let's say he outscores the others by 15 a match, that's basically an extra 105 points, which could quickly evaporate in round 8 if you are battling to field a reasonable side. Then there's the opportunity cost of not putting the extra 100k to work on another line. It could mean the difference between a mid-pricer & a keeper (and another potential trade), or it could mean a speculative rookie over a reasonably priced best 22 player.

I'm yet to decide which path to go but I can definitely see the logic on delaying Pendlebury until the byes. He's a champ no doubt, but the decision isn't as clear cut as some make out.

Here's a mock team without the great man.

Backs - McVeigh  Mitchell  Simpson Hurn Suckling McDonald (Cutler, Fuller)
Mids - Ablett, Jack, Murphy, Beams, Thomas, Martin, Ellis, Dunstan (Robertson, Garlett)
Rucks - Naitanui, Sandilands (Thurlow, King)
Forwards - Dangerfield, Martin, Franklin, Pavlich, Fasolo, Bock (Kennedy-Harris, Impey)

Cash - $3,500

On Jack's selection, he may seem like a smokie but Sydney have a fantastic draw early and I wouldn't be surprised to see a 115 average beside his name going into the byes. If so, then the move will be well and truly vindicated. The captain's loophole is certainly an issue but I'm confident there's enough back-up in there to cover for Gaz's bad days.

Interesting read. Would only leave him out if the cash u save from him can be used to significantly better your team. But am happy to set and forget the 2 best players in Supercoach and make my money elsewhere.

My eventual decision hinges on some decent forward & back rookies to emerge, at the moment I certainly can't see too many threatening Bock & Fasolo for reliability and output, and there's even the distinct possibility that the back line bench will need some remedial work. With the dearth of cheap rookies, getting round 1 starters is tough, and Pendles may have to be the sacrificial lamb.

I don't think he is a must but you need at least two of Ablett, Pendles, Selwood, Rockliff regardless IMO.

You should have closed the thread after this bit of gold from Vinny!
