At the moment, I only have Pendlebury in my midfield... and with so many value picks in the middle and over-priced rookies, I doubt I want to pay premium for both (only NEED one for the big C).

With both having the same round 8 bye as well, it makes the prospect of bring in one of them then (hopefully cheaper, but these two never seem to fall in price, I know) a little tastier.

So based solely on the first 7 rounds, who would you START with?

I'm leaning towards Pendlebury, as he just seems a little surer to maintain his output and not play a bad game. (Well, now Ablett will average 170 until his bye).

Thoughts? Cheers

Ricochet

Ablett averaged 136 until his drop off at the end of the year mainly due to an injury. Both have Crowley in the first couple of rounds but GAJ has shown is the better performer against him so far in limited games. Pendles also has a much tougher start to the year in terms of fixture (doesn't alway necessarily mean poor scores though).

I'm picking GAJ over Pendles

I would start with Gaz over Pendlebury.

This is based on the Pies very tough first 7 rounds compared to the Suns easier first 7 rounds. The Pies play 6 of last years finalists plus The Bombers in the first 7 rounds. The Suns play just 3 of last years finalists in the first 7 rounds.

Both will face Crowley in the first 2 rounds but Pendles also has to come up against Carlton who are the next best tagging team in the comp with Carrazzo/Curnow. The Suns don't play Carlton during the first 7 rounds.

I expect Gaz to average around 130 over the first 7 rounds while I expect Pendles to average around 120.

Bully

Pendles scored tons in all but 2 games (96 & 92). One of these was against Crowley but against Carlton he pumped out 121 & 154. I'm personally moving heaven and earth to have both in my side, Ablett & Pendles should be the rocks by which you build your side, they are also the perfect duo by which you can exploit the captain's loophole.

FactHunt

Start with perma-captain Gaz.
Of course you want both, and you will need to have both ASAP.. but if you CAN ONLY START with one, start with the man who has owned SC since 2008. I'd be surprised (barring injury) if he doesn't sit atop the leader board for most points scored by a SC'er at seasons end. Again.

Thanks guys, Gaz it is for now I guess. Honestly didn't expect this to be so lop-sided! Pendles hasn't dropped below 90 in a century.
The top midfielders score well no matter who they're playing, especially now that teams manage their guns so heavily, so 'weak' teams don't mean so much to play against these days.

At the moment I have the money to upgrade Cotchin to the other and have both, leaving me with Pendles, Gaz and Hawkins.

Or I could upgrade Hawkins to say, Pav or another F4 instead. (I reckon Hawkins if fit can string a few together and hit 500k, IMO)

So much value in Cotchin though..!

Any opinions?

FactHunt

I like Cotch too mate... hard decision given sooooo much value this year in the mids (Murph/Beams/Daisy etc)... I guess if you feel that Cotch is a probable top 8 mid by season's end, then he's worth the coin now.

Well, I gotta do something different to win I guess!

So maybe I'll start without Gaz after all, given everyone else will have him ;)
I'd never ask for a player to get injured.... but if something happened, well.....

Have had both Locked from virtually day 1, but have just dropped Pendles for Savage :O and upgraded Kolo to Simpson. Will go Savage to Pendles in round 9.

For a perspective of not starting with Pendles (which I haven't read yet), i saw an article on HUN online on this topic by 2011 SC winner today - not sure when it was published though ...

I did read that actually, can't say I remember much from it though, I'll see if I can find it

I've got both, but I think GAJ is a must have. If he gets off to another flyer it might be harder to trade him in later. Not saying Pendles might not also do the same, but very hard to back against the little champion.

ATM I'm going with just the Gazza with the idea of Pendles coming in at Rd.9,  BUT I'm keeping upgrade $s aside in case he burns it up early and I need to bring him in. If not I'll have the cash to pick up someone I have missed without having to double or triple trade. Cheers.     ;D

Just ablett for me. Of the two, he's more likely to outperform his price.
