it works well in theory but having that extra 200K on the bench means about a 20 point average loss on your overall teams output a week which means that your loophole will have to make about the same in order for it to be viable and i just don't think u can bank on that sort of improvement week in week out using a loophole, hell ya might even get it wrong sometimes.

Its a tough year to set up a team though ive found with how expensive most of the rookie options are it just eats into ya bank balance so much

True, but it's also a case of money generation & adequate cover for injury. Playing Sandi as ruck 2 opens up a can of worms if he's either subbed or rested. If say Thurlow doesn't get early game time, what's the contingency plan if a starting ruck misses a match or two? The bye period could also cause headaches and may even lead to a donut or two. The problem this year is the byes have been scheduled earlier than normal, meaning that the opportunity for upgrades has been diminished. The last thing I want to be doing is locking myself into ruck trades when there's a multitude of other positions to worry about. Leaving your rucks bare and exposed can be a recipe for disaster, I've been there on too many occasions.

The other alternative of course is to pick Dixon, you save the dough and can also use the loophole option for Sandi. But is he better than Franklin or Pav? There's no clear cut answer on this, both options carry a bit of risk.

All good points man, its a tough one this year with NicNat, Roughy, Ryder losing their DPP

My Chumps

He'll average 97 but will only play 12 games.

The poll shows a wide variety of opinion.
He's my R2 as at his price and what he can score he is a bargain. Secondly he allows for a stronger line up in the other areas. If he stays injury free, even if it is to the byes, he will be a great pick and give those that started with him a leg up on the rest of the competition.
He averaged 37 hit outs in the finals. 125SC in the GF v Haw, 105SC in the Prelim v Syd and 112SC in the Qualifying v Geel.
He is the main training group and enjoying a good pre-season by all accounts.

Yes he is a risky pick but it's also a risk by leaving him out.

Must have DPP or 3rd Ruck... Simple really. Your call.

Danzac

Both Jonathan Griffen and Zac Clarke are coming off knee injuries, so you'd think at least early on Sandi will be heavily featured for Freo with not much back up. He might get a surprise resting when those guys come back, but we don't know when that'll be yet.

Am strongly considering Sandi at R2 and no 3rd ruck (well a Derickx / Currie).
If/when Sandi goes down either you've got enough coin from him to upgrade well, or you make a MUST trade if he goes down early. The downside to this plan is when the byes come along... but if planned well you can get away with it with 18 scoring players of the 22.

Vinny

Haha to be completely honest I'd think about him getting injured. I won't have any cover might have to make a double trade or go to HMac or Grundy praying one of them is killing it.

Have had him in and out so often I'm dizzy. So I've drafted a team with Naitanui and Lobbe,  and provided Nicnat is fit and selected Sandi is out. Too tooooo much injury worry to willingly take in to Rd.1   Cheers.      ;) ;)

Sandi will average 0 when he is injured and being rested LOL
We are all getting greedy and just hoping to can string 7-8 games together to make a straight swap
to premium..no1 actually plans on sandilands making it through a season..if he does i'll eat my own boots! ;D

Have Sandi at R2 currently and Dixon as Fwd, believe u must have a plan for WHEN not if he goes down!

Finally found a way to get both these blokes in without the rest of the team looking to shower and then... I realised they have the same bye :( Thats 2 of your 4 donuts taken up right there in one line :/
