HI guys not sure if there are already any threads about this.. if so send link...
Armstrong v suckling... my defence is kind of relying on one of the 2...

I have reservations about suckiling... everyone is on him but more because of his price. Armstrong has been toted as a great prospect for years and hasn't live up to the hype... so does anyone have any good info on either>

My POV is Armstrong playing def for pies where shaw is gone... Maxwell isn't a lock in the team now he isn't cap... gives more options for defence players...

If Armstong takes shaws job then he is an absolute bargain...

whats peoples thoughts on these two?

Suckling. Armstrong simply is all hype. If you go Suckling, you know you've got some value and quite possibly a keeper. Averaging around 85-95. As for Armstrong, I don't really rate him too highly, yes he may take Shaw's spot, doesn't mean he'll replicate his scores. But he would be a POD if your keen on him.

I think there have been a few players that have been touted as taking Shaw's position in the backline.  Remember that both Williams (particularly with a top 10 finish at the B&F) and Sinclair won many fans at the club filling in for Toovey, and Toovey could be back as early as round 1.  Armstrong is not a sure thing for a regular best 22 position but is fit and impressing on the training track.  Matt Suckling is coming back from injury and no certainty to be right for round 1.

In the end it' going to come down to which risk you want to take.  The risk on a fit player with suspect job security, or the risk on an injured player with excellent job security if his body is right (I'm assuming he'd have good job security, he seemed to before he did his injury).

cheers guys... essentially the NAB will decide I guess... mu concerns is suckling 80 avg which isn't worth it...if he were 95 id be all over it like a fat kid on a cupcake.... just wanted some insight on Armstrong... was looking at willams aswell... probs is does he wear the vest?

if a 95 avg is your criteria then put a line through armstrong!

Highly doubtful that Williams gets the vest.  I don't think he did at all last year.  The Pies do rotate it a bit (I'm assuming your talking about Marley Williams) so he might get it once or twice, but he wouldn't wear with the red or green vest regularly I wouldn't think.  I would have though out of the two Armstrong is a more likely candidate to get the vest more often.

Suckling imo, though im not starting either.

Armstrong with an impressive preseason my just get a nod for rnd 1 but could find himself out of the line up pretty quickly if not performing. Williams and maxwell with both start rnd 1, Toovey  and seedsman both ahead of him too, though both coming back from injury, both should be available if not rnd 1, by rounds 2-3 which could see him out pretty quickly. Young and Lumumba also to rotate through wings and half back.

Who's in your backline then if you don't have Suckers? Would have to have either 4 top priced defenders or someone like Docherty at D5. Otherwise backline would be too weak IMO.

I'd say Suckling is one of the top 3 locks this season, along with Dangerfield and Beams

Yeah I really don't WANT to pick Suckling but he kind of picks himself. Not enough cheap options otherwise.

Ill keep an eye out preseason, and whilst I dont think he is a bad pick, dont think he has to be in eaither, so going unique by not having him.

That said I have a very loaded backline right now.
McVeigh,  Mitchell,  Hanley,  Shaw,  Grimes, KK (mcdonald,  fuller)

Armstrong will be joining the likes of Yagmoor and Russell and barely be sighted after the first couple of games.

i would love to have the nuts to not pick suckling ... i honestly see us all hitting the trade button in 3 rounds ... but cos everyone has him i am not willing to gamble against him
