I originally started with all three. Eventually Stevie J went so I could upgrade another player, now Swanny is gone as well and I can either go Scooter ($120K) or Cotchin ($242k left). I've decided Cotchin is too good to pass up.

Now am I crazy? I usually start both but they each are over 5% of my salary cap. I believe Stevie J & Swan are both going to drop in price no matter what and Gaj is the most likely to add some value (I don't think he will though and money is the only reason I'm starting Cotchin over Scooter (however Scooter is ideal for my byes).

I just want to see people's thoughts because I haven't done this since 2011..

Current midfield:
Gaj, Rocky, Beams, Cotchin, B. Ellis, Daisy, O'Rourke, Polec, X. Ellis, Honeychurch

I had Swan in my team but not Ablett.
All week I was thinking I might slot Swan down to Gazza so that`s what I have done and will upgrade to Swan.
Could change my mind and start with both but uses up a lot of cash starting with both of them.

haha yeah I feel the same way. The way I sorted it was Ablett was cheaper and less likely to lose value. I'll be starting McVeigh, Mitchell & Bartel all in the back because Kade Simpson doesn't fit my bye structure and those 3 premiums fixtures are ideal :)

Toga

I'll start one, leaning towards Swan for some reason :o

Thunderbolts

Usually for me its both but with value elsewhere I'm starting with just the Pig....

Windigo

Starting with both might be somewhat unique this year.  :o

it's a bloody tough decision that's for sure! but at such high prices, i believe there are better options (cash wise) with other proven 100+ midfielders (eg, rockliff, cotchin, selwood, etc), and frees up cash elsewhere (defenders perhaps...). In saying that, Ive built my midfield around Gaj.

Good luck :)

pommyadam

i'm starting with none of the "big 4"

have considered a team with one of them, but it comes at the cost of a decent F5 (basically Pav vs Rookie)
and i'm not a fan of having 4 sub-210k forwards

Barra17

I'm starting with Swan and Ablett this year, they both fit in and the rest of the team still looks decent enough to me.

@nd round unlimited trades makes it easier to go with or without in that first round.  Going for value in the first round, no Swan, Gaj or Stevie J.  Round 2 I'll be dropping the dead weight who didn't perform in round 1 and upgrade around the field to who did perform and who I really want, and will prob only end up with Gaj in my team if any as I also think Stevie J and Swan will drop in price.  I've gone for overall last few years and this year going for league so just getting back into the change as both styles can be very different especially on how you decide to start.

None of the above. I'm putting Pendles in that class, has the capacity to improve even more this year, more likely than Gaj or Swan.

hahaha good move, he's also been given the captaincy and is easily the most effective mid in the AFL. I think he'll be incredibly unique this season as people will be overlooking him for Swan, Gaj & Stevie J. No risk entailed either because he's a proven performer :)

Beams!  :)
hahaha my guess is that over 99% of teams will be starting Beams :) Suckling, Dusty, Danger, Mitchell & McVeigh will all be close behind. Daisy will probably be incredibly popular as well :)

I meant Beams even over Pendles, but yeah you're right.  The onlt ones out of that list I'm not durrently starting with is Dusty and bit unsure of Suckling as the Hawks have a pretty hard run due to the new fixture rules.  Mitchell will be in most teams, but he has a hell of a lot of tags to get through this year, if he wasn't a Def I think he'd be in a very low % of teams.
