Taking the byes into consideration I think its a must to have at least 1 premium in each line from each bye round. I've managed this quite comfortably bar the defence. Slim pickings for R10.

McVeigh - Over priced, likely to be a lot cheaper at some stage, may receive more attention, only one year averaging 100+
Hanley - tough early draw, scores poorly against the best, potential tag
Hibberd - Only one good year, makes him hard to trust, will the Essendon saga have an effect?
Ibbotson - incredibly risky for obvious reasons
Grimes - incredibly risky for obvious reasons

If there was no bye issue, my defence would without question look like this: Mitchell, S.Thompson, Simpson, Hurn, Suckling

Thoughts on a R10 defender?

I'm risking J Grimes yet agree with your reasoning. The only other I can find with any
chance is J Adcock of Brisbane. I'd be inclined to ask Ringo what he thinks of him first though. You have proposed a pretty hard question to answer. Cheers mate.     ;)

Currently have Hibberd but I like Grimesy a fair bit.

Hibberd my pick for now though.

I'm going Hibberd for sure. Will be semi-unique. Yes only 1 good year but watching him play he's a gun. Bombers usually come out of the blocks firing and have a look at his start to last season.

Hanley would be there but for his early draw and likely tag.

McVeigh I'll prob get as well if he stays in the same role. McVeigh and Hibberd are the less risk out of those u mention IMO

Mcveigh is miles ahead. Then Hibbard i reckon !

McVeigh > Hanley > Hibberd > Grimes > Ibbo

Hanley doesn't score that bad against the top teams, usually around 85-90 IIRC. He only struggles when getting the hard tag, and he'll cop the 2nd tag at Brisbane this year. Personally I think he'll start slowly (about an 85 avg) and then kill it after the byes once he's used to the tag and Brisbane's draw becomes a bit easier. Should average around 95 (or more) at the end of the season.

McVeigh is still ahead of all these guys though, and even if he's too expensive, I think he's worth it. Personally, I'm not worrying about the byes, as having an even spread last year didn't really get me ahead of those who tanked a round.

Dayze

Mcveigh.
If price is the issue then hibberd
If it wasn't for the inevitable tag Hanley is going to attract, I would choose him over all of them.
But it's going to happen and he is going to struggle.
Can't believe people keep considering grimes.
