Can somebody tell me why he is getting picked? Am i missing something.? Good player but only averaged 70 odd last year. If he averaged say 90 would definatly consider

Vinny

I do think he is overhyped a little bit but everyone seems to expect a breakout and all past signs show that he will breakout.

I won't start him unless he shows something good in the NAB Challenge.

He wouldn't be the worst D4, he is already very popular.

Decision pending on him. Hurn for now at D4 for myself.

There's certainly speculation involved in picking Swallow but there are very few other true breakout contenders. In his favour is his draft status, and one might naturally expect a former numero uno to be hitting his straps by the fourth year. His form at the tail end of 2013 was also strong, with a 93.8 average over 5 games. This is the type of output I would be banking on. The other important factor is the likelihood of GC climbing a few rungs of the ladder. They have a diamond studded midfield and Swallow can only benefit. When I weigh up the merits of another young gun in Atley, I can only point to Swallow's superior disposal and his tackling pressure. Worst case scenario in picking Swallow is he remains on an 80 average, not the end of the world considering the upside.

Excellent reasoning Bully. My other breakout candidate near that price bracket is out injured, Paul Seedsman. So Swallow is the go.     ;)

batt

Was injured and played out of position because of it.

Back into the mids this year and hopefully firing on all cylinders.

Think it is because of his bloodlines always touted as good as his brother just has not got to that level yet this is his fourth year and if you look at his brother year number 4 is when he went bang before that much the same  ;)

I'm in the same boat with Swallow. Why such the fuss, I know he's been in the system now for a good number of years but other than that I'm u sure.

The GC midfield consist of who....Ablett, O'Meara, Prestia, Bennell, Martin will run through there, Matera, Day, Lonergan, May, Shaw.

There are numerous players to push through the midfield, if they rate his skills and efficiency at half back won't they leave him there. And if they leave him off the half back how is his average going to rise?

He's never been a half back.  Gold Coast rate him as a pure mid.  McKenna was forced to experiment with him seeing as he had a bung knee and couldn't run with the mids.  Now he has a full pre-season under his belt and is part of that GAJ/JOM/Prestia/Bennell group.

Sky is the limit.

Don't try and convince them any more batt better for us with faith in him  ;)

Think he could be a worthwhile risk, but have grimes in my team instead right now, rate him slighty higher before seeing the nab.

No one is considering watts this year? Another number 1 pick, under a new coach with a new role in the midfield beckoning. Need hated him and vice versa so his output last year was probably affected by that. Has averaged 89 previously so with a bit of improvement on his previous best year it's not out of the question he could go to a 95 average. I agree it would take some kahunas to pick him and you are facing ridicule if it doesn't work, hes not in my current team, but I'm seriously considering it.

I like to take calculated risks in my team and it has always served me well

I have both these no.1 draft picks in my team and have for a month now... they will stay in unless NAB gives me a reason to pull them out.

The signs are there

I was definitely going cold on Swallow and was considering a switch out to a Grimes/Hurn but this half of footy playing out of the middle has looked the goods so far and settled me down a bit. I know its only a half but to validate picking it was more his role than anything and at this point int time its looking good. He is a bit like Ziebell, everyone will be like your picking him off his NAB form, when really we all know he can pump out premo status, its just pending on his tank/fitness which has looked good so far, rather than just jumping on because of 1 game!

Dayze

I have watched him every centre bounce and he has only been at half of them.
Rischitelli has been at nearly everyone.
Still missing prestia.
It's hard to tell if swallow is a starting onballer. Is definedly in the midfield rotations.
His position is so crucial to his selection this year... I'm still very critical. I just don't think I rate him. He doesn't look to me like that good a footballer... Probably harsh
