Anyone considering this bloke? Could suffer 2nd year blues a la Zorko but he got me out of a jam a few times last year, was pretty handy. Should be almost guaranteed a spot in the best 22 and the lions outfit is improving...

I predict this fella to possibly do a wingard.
Is going to b an absolute superstar but wingard averaged 50odd and went up to 98.
Mayes is already priced at 70 so he just isn't worth the risk mate.

Too pricey and with brisbanes tough draw its going to b hard.
A good smokie in the draft games tho....

Too risky I think, at his price going into a second year in a side that looks set to struggle. Better options to take a risk on I think.

I wouldn't say he's guaranteed a spot in our best 22, will need to perform week in, week out. Guys like Aishy and other rookies we picked up will be fighting for a spot, so if he drops off at all could be dropped.

I wouldn't expect him to average more than 80.

Mayes atm would be picked in Brisbanes 22 but would need to keep performing because guys like Beams. Aish and Close will be putting pressure on as well.  See all these guys fighting for 2 positions. Think Mayes has the ability to average in the nineties as he will not attract a tag and remember he did get 5 Brownlow votes last year as well. He has sound disposal and last year is kick to handball ratio was nearly 2:1 ( 11.0/5.7) which suits SC scoring.
As you say 2nd year blues may strike.  I will be keeping a watch on him during Brisbanes early haed draw and looking to bring him in later if signs are there at a greatly reduced price.  He is at that awkward price which makes it difficult to commit.

Also Wingard had the easy fixture where as Brissie have a much tougher run this year

Since mid-priced defenders are most likely crucial to our defense structure this year, anyone considering Mayes? With Hanley out for a while this guy could pick it up a bit and by the time Hanley is back, will most likely be able to upgrade or even keep.

Yeah I was thinking about him (obviously) but think there's others definitely ahead even in the mid pricer stakes, wasn't impressive against the saints - esp when you had Geary killing it for less (and now he'll go into so many teams, dammit, I was hoping everyone just kept talking about Newnes :( ).

Isnt he in his third year?
