As a regular attender at games (Lions member as you all know) I think it is a very good idea. ATM I rely on the record to identify visiting clubs players but with names on Jerseys  this reference will not be needed,
See how it works.

Big fan it looks good and helps identify players for those who don't watch every game.

I just look at stats so when I watch a game nice to know who the players are.

Should make plenty of money with people more likely to buy jerseys now with the names on it.
Yeah agreed Holz, think it will help people who don't know the game well, which may get them more interested in the AFL.

Yeah and I reckon might people may start to buy guernseys with names on the back of them.

My observations after attending the game last night.

Name is too small if sitting in the tiered stands you could not read them so if the AFL are to persist they need to be larger.  Maybe make the numbers a little smaller and names larger.
Found myself still having to refer to the Record to identify Richmond players.

So in summary if it continues in present form no benefot whatsoever and not worth the effort but if the names were to be larger where they could be read easily then yes.

All commentators said the same ;)

Ringo I don't think they can get any bigger. If your sitting far up and cant see them, then making them slightly bigger wont really change that, but I do agree that making them slightly bigger and the number slightly smaller makes sense

I think the real benefit of names comes through for viewers on TV, and at the end of the day there are much more people watching a game on TV vs being at the game, so I don't mind it all

I don't mind if they go with numbers, or if they don't, it makes no difference to me, but what I do find laughable is the fuss that people even make over this in the first place (Not here, but just in general) People who rant about this, have strong opinions etc need to get a life lol

EDIT: I should also add that even if made bigger, from a TV perspective you are only going to see the actual name if the camera is close up and focused on a player. Being a fast moving game, and the camera shots being widespread to show us the action in most cases we wont see the names anyway

At the end of the day it's not really going to help a great deal, but at the same time there is no harm in doing it

Master Q

I should be sitting first level at Dogs vs Blues on Sunday so I can give another perspective of what it's like at a game  :)

This was brought up on commentary last night. How the number should be a bit smaller which would mean the name would be bigger.

I really didn't notice the difference and i believe i think it was Hampson didn't even have a name on his jumper. I think this is a good step in the right direction however.

Agree it is a right step but need to just get it right. Have just watched the replay of the game and it is fine for the viewing audience so it looks like only an issue from the ground.
Will be interested in Q's report as well as that would equate to upper level at the Gabba.

I'll be at the WCE Carlton game next week, sitting in the Axcess One section on level 2, so I too am curious to see how it looks live

Hampson wasn't the only one without his name, I think there was a few others too

Mr.Craig

Unless the AFL think all supporters are owls the only reason I can see for them doing this is marketing.
