I don't really see why people would have a problem with it. It's not a huge change and it doesn't really effect anyone in a negative way.

I feel that is where tradition can be taken a bit extreme. It's not like everyone says I love AFL because there are no names on the back.  It's not an iconic or major part of the game, so I don't think it should be fussed over that much.

I like it, always wondered why the didn't do it,

I think you will hardly even notice it tbh, we will still be to busy watching what that player with the ball is doing and every player in the vicinity.

QuotePLAYER names on jumpers could become a permanent feature in the AFL as soon as next season if reaction is positive to the round five trial of the concept.

All 18 teams will be part of the test, with every player to have his name printed above his jumper number, starting with Thursday night's clash between the Brisbane Lions and Richmond.

The concept has strong support from the clubs, particularly in Queensland and New South Wales, but tradition prevented it from being introduced without a trial.

Space is also at a premium on the back of AFL jumpers and the round five experiment will allow the AFL to examine how names can fit on jumpers and how helpful it is to supporters.

Not sure I really like it but hey I guess we'll see how the trial goes.

Master Q

Doesn't look so great IMO

Works in other sports but they don't have sponsors on the back...

Agree with you on that Q, think with names + sponsors it gets a bit too crowded.

From the GC Suns Facebook page :P

Glad to see it fits!
Kade and the boys will be wearing their names on the back of their jumpers in round five.

Big fan it looks good and helps identify players for those who don't watch every game.

I just look at stats so when I watch a game nice to know who the players are.

Should make plenty of money with people more likely to buy jerseys now with the names on it.
