From round 3 until round 6 players will wear names on their backs as a trial.

Demetriou is a strong supporter of the move.

I, for one, think it is a great move. It's always good when you go the odd GWS or GC game and you have no idea who a few of those rookies are running around. I think they should have made this move a long time ago. Makes it a lot easier for the casual viewer too.

I don't care that much, but it sorta goes against 'tradition'. But I guess the AFL haven't cared for tradition at all in the past. Plus all those long names will look a bit silly  :P

I could warm to the idea if they wore the name of their favorite superhero on their back....ironman, batman, silver surfer,
lex luther, coyote, ninja turtle, ....that would be better for the commentators. Then they could stop making up their own nicknames for the players... ;D

Couldn't give a fat rats clacker either way tbh, a good thing for those new to footy but as some have said above some of the longer names will be a bit hard to get on the back of a jumper.
