Also, I was under the impression that the NRL comp got canned and will be relaunched in Round 4 so I don't think any Round 1 "cheating" particularly matters in the whole scheme of things.

Yes, I misread some previous information. All the same if someone has evidence of cheating they should be contacting FanHub and report it. If they don't get an adequate response they should then contact the NSW Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing.

All the traffic for AFL and NRL fantasy are going through the same channel. It's a fact that by the looks of it all they have bitten off way more than they can chew... They should of added more servers / capacity onto their network to handle it all. AFL have some blame for it since its them who made the changes to this comp and went to Fanhub...

Traffic to their links would have increased easily by more than 1000% and unless your increase your bandwidth to handle this then your site goes cableway....
You appear to have education in information technology :) In your opinion how long will it take to die down? Also after the major log off will they have to repair the servers (maintenance work) or will they instantly function effectively?

Yeah I do PSK  ;) Truth is unless they increase the backhaul (capacity) to handle the connections coming into their site it may never die down which would be a major headache for all players. If that occurs you can only point the finger in 2 directions - AFL for being so stupid and Fan Hub themselves. In regards to maintenance work that would be an ongoing thing that should be occurring - if it isn't they should be shot and nothing instantly ever functions effectively unless you have a stable network / capacity to handle traffic.

Fellow nerd here... they can add capacity pretty easily if they had the foresight to set it up to scale easily. The bigger issue is that these decisions don't happen in a vacuum. The AFL and the other organisations involved would have had enough historical data to predict this. It's pretty ridiculous that it was allowed to occur.

When something takes so long to brig back to a stable state it is usually the application itself which is at fault, not the servers. And that means tht hopefully there will be a few people working over the weekend on this to ensure they can stabilise it for the future.
