Kinda tempted to introduce this prize for the pre-season comp...

... The Gibbons Cup?

Each team names 5 players per pre-season week. The team with the highest score over the two weeks gets the ability to name Michael Gibbons for the year, but Gibbons will come off your list at seasons end. Runner-up can name Cottrell too.

Thoughts? Understand the objections... could be fun tho.

Personally, I think it's too big a prize for a comp that's pretty unpredictable

Agree

Can't really think of a fair way to do it either. Might just have to keep them off lists, and then they go into next years draft? Don't even love that tbh, but not sure how to do this fairly

DazBurg

couple of suggestions (really only helpful for next seasons onwards as not in place now)

but
A) if a player retires after list lodgement (i.e how meow lost bugg or holz if he hadn't of traded him etc)

B) with this rule in place now in the AFL we could make it possible to leave 1 list spot open for such an event? (of course this means passing with last spot in all 3 drafts so risk V reward plus if no one picked up then too bad)

C) could be the new priority pick (but if no one gets picked up like this in future seasons would hurt more for the team that should of got a priority pick)

D) could put them in a bid style auction like we used to have for former players etc bid now lose the pick at End of season (i.e you bid your 2nd you will have no 2nd pick at EOS regardless of where you finish and will need to delist an extra player now or EOS)

dunno some food for thought probably all terrible ideas and i have now just wasted 5 minutes of your lives that you will never get back

but hey it is off season gave you something to do right :P

Ive been off the radar so i have no idea if who Gibbons is or if hes good but by the sounds of it its a decent prize? if so, i like option D for this year or even next year, highest bidder gets him, that makes sense? Id prefer it next year so you know what pick you are bidding exactly

Holz

he has to go into next year draft. The team that wants him most gets him fair and square. If he is the best player then the team who gets the #1 pick can pay up for him (which wont happen).

dont think its even a discussion point to be honest, every other option will make 1 coach happy and every other coach unhappy.

Giving him to a team that has lost a player is clearly wrong as thats basically an advantage for losing a player. Most teams would happily drop plenty of guy on their list to get gibbons. So thats not an option.

Awarding him as a prize in a comp that is based off a bunch of practice sessions where stars rest and pretty much its a joke inst a solution.

GoLions

I'd probably just give him to whoever finished last in 2018

fanTCfool

We lost our last match by 1461 points. We need him.

Well Purp did suggest a prize for winning a comp.

How about the winner of the comp get him?

Yep love this maybe even make it just 3 players so it's harder to nail/relies on a bit more luck. Hopefully one of the lower teams can get it.

I traded for PSD pick 1 so I could get Gibbons. He's mine you cheats.

Rids

Apologies for the spam. AXV is looking for a new coach. Thread topic link is below.

so purps
what will we do if a delisted player is picked up in the Pre-Season Supplemental Selection Period
which runs from
December 1 through until March 15 next year

does the former club just get them if they wish them

example, you have goddard, your going to delist him as no club
but if he gets picked up after our drafts etc say in January, you just get an extra player?

for what it is worth i reckon this is the way to go, as clarke and mumford already going to former teams etc and lists will be filled anyways

Good point!

Yeah I'd be happy with that. If they get picked up during that period only, and provided they were on your list last, then yeah they can get added to your list (if your salary cap allows it)

Consistent with the above, Mexico City can add Jonathon Marsh to its list (because they have cap room).

Yes, this will take their list total to 47 (if they choose to add him).

If this happened during the trade period, and they wanted to trade, they would have to reduce their list size to 46 in the first trade they do in order for it to be valid.

At the end of the day, he was on their list last, and he's playing AFL this year. Given this, it doesn't make sense for him to be unlisted to me.

Jroo

Yeah I'll take Marsh
