PNL couldn't handle that much of a man in Maister, so we had to let him go in hope another team was good enough to fit his prowess. Such a shame he is just too good so he doesn't play many games because he'd be better than Ablett. He held back in order to spare oppositions and give them a fighting chance.

ossie85... compensating for his bad news...

If you see him having the last post in your team thread.

You better have hoped you'd received bad news earlier.

So, had a quick play about what Worlds would look like with a salary cap...

Calculated:
- AFL average of each player from the last 3 years (2012-2014) multiplied by 5000 (simple magic number)
- Any player who has played less than 10 AFL games over the last 3 years is given a base salary of $100,000

So:

PNL Reindeers   $14,435,000
Toronto Wolves   $14,219,000
Buenos Aires Armadillos   $13,802,000
Sao Paulo Pumas   $13,621,000
Mexico City Suns   $13,580,000
Dublin Destroyers   $13,576,000
London Royals   $13,158,000
Cape Town Cobras   $13,109,000
Tokyo Samurai   $12,948,000
Cairo Sands   $12,926,000
Wellington Warriors   $12,764,000
Berlin Brewers   $12,742,000
Pacific Islanders   $12,725,000
New York Revolution   $12,641,000
Moscow Spetsnaz   $12,297,000
Seoul Magpies   $11,996,000
New Delhi Tigers   $11,697,000
Beijing Thunder   $10,918,000

More or less what you'd expect, with an average Salary of $12,953,000.

The top 20 Salaries are:
Surname   Given   Club   Salary
Ablett   Gary jnr   Sao Paulo Pumas   $672,000
Pendlebury   Scott   Toronto Wolves   $628,000
Beams   Dayne   Cairo Sands   $586,000
Selwood   Joel   Dublin Destroyers   $586,000
Watson   Jobe   Dublin Destroyers   $579,000
Kennedy   Josh P   Cape Town Cobras   $575,000
Swan   Dane   Buenos Aires Armadillos   $564,000
Dangerfield   Patrick   Seoul Magpies   $561,000
Cotchin   Trent   Cape Town Cobras   $549,000
Boyd   Matthew   Buenos Aires Armadillos   $546,000
Rockliff   Tom   Dublin Destroyers   $542,000
Fyfe   Nat   Berlin Brewers   $539,000
Johnson   Steve   Buenos Aires Armadillos   $538,000
Jack   Kieran   Tokyo Samurai   $538,000
Sloane   Rory   Sao Paulo Pumas   $537,000
Deledio   Brett   Wellington Warriors   $535,000
Cox   Dean   Buenos Aires Armadillos   $534,000
Priddis   Matt   PNL Reindeers   $532,000
Griffen   Ryan   Moscow Spetsnaz   $528,000
Ward   Callan   Moscow Spetsnaz   $528,000

The bottom 20 salaries (played 10 or more games from last 3 years) are:
Hine   Taylor   Toronto Wolves   $218,000
Brown   Mitchell J   London Royals   $217,000
Sheridan   Thomas   New Delhi Tigers   $217,000
Kennedy   Ben   Beijing Thunder   $213,000
Plowman   Lachlan   Cape Town Cobras   $212,000
McKenzie   Brad   PNL Reindeers   $212,000
Sumner   Tim   Wellington Warriors   $212,000
Townsend   Jacob   Tokyo Samurai   $209,000
Sheringham   Jackson   Tokyo Samurai   $208,000
Bootsma   Joshua   Dublin Destroyers   $205,000
Dunell   Sam   New Delhi Tigers   $203,000
Lemmens   Sean   Mexico City Suns   $202,000
Corr   Aidan   PNL Reindeers   $200,000
Salem   Christian   Seoul Magpies   $188,000
Rohan   Gary   Cape Town Cobras   $185,000
Sexton   Alex   Cape Town Cobras   $176,000
Hutchins   Jack   Pacific Islanders   $173,000
Wilson   Nathan   Berlin Brewers   $167,000
Whiley   Mark   Toronto Wolves   $167,000
Jack   Brandon   Mexico City Suns   $160,000

IF (and I realise it is a big if) we do a Salary cap, this is how I'd see it working.

- A cap of $13,500,000

- If a player has played 10 games in reserves, they can be poached. I.e: Troy Chaplin has played 15 Cairo reserves matches and his value is $374,000. Beijing, in desperate need for Defenders, would need to offer an extra 50% minimum ($561,000) to poach him. In order for Cairo to prevent him being poached, they would need to raise its salary offer by 25% (or 30% if they offered 60%, 45% if they offered 90%, etc) to $468,000.

- Any player, apart from 5 'franchise' players at each teams, can be poached at Twice the salary minimum. PNL's Daniel Rich is currently $440,000. In order for New Delhi to poach him, they'd need to offer $880,000. If PNL wanted to keep him, they'd need to offer $660,000 (half way between).

- Each team nominates 5 franchise players. These players can only be poached at a mammoth Three times the price. Gary Ablett jnr's price is $672,000. For him to be poached, someone would need to offer a whopping $2,016,000 to steal him. In order for Sao Paulo to keep him, all they would need to do is increase his salary by 25% (to a total of $840,000).

- All teams that have players poached would be compensated with draft picks.

- If you think a player is overvalued, say Buenos Aires Dane Swan at $564,000, you can offer him a pay decrease to anything you want. BUT, if any team matches that price they can register an interest. I.e. $564,000. I.e. Buenos Aires reduces Dane Swan's salary to $400,000. One of two things would happen - either nobody registers an interest and the salary decrease is accepted, or a team (say Seoul) registers an interest. If Buenos Aires wants to keep Swan they'd need to pay him $564,000. If they don't, Seoul are obliged to take him at $400,000.

I kinda like this idea. This would replace the points cap.

Jroo

Interesting, I like the idea too.

elephants

Sounds pretty cool Ossie, would definitely add something to WXV I reckon.

Holz

The problem I see with it is poaching. Let's say the weaker teams all decided to pick one top 4 team and target it and poach like the 6th 6th 8th 9th best players.

No way would that team be able to match and you can basically destroy that team.

Could see a lot of private dealings done to sabotage other teams.

Hey New dehli I'll give you player X If you try and poach my competitions players.

ossie85

We could add a you can only poach x players per team

But if say Dublin lose Rockliff, you'd theoretically be able to use that money to poach from someone else

In future its probably better to hit me up via PM but your wish I my command ;)

If this does happen, the value of players on the trade table is going to be thrown out completely...
