Wishing FS and Torp traded with PNL when they set out to wreck New Delhi at the end of 2012 :P

nah we already planned to reverse as Ax regretted it

but yeah was quite frustrating because we were made to feel like we cheated when everyone could of easily voted against

seems like about 7 or 8 seemed to think it was not a good trade yet most passed it

worst thing for us is we reversed for Ax and pyro's sake and both don't even coach new york anymore  :(

Nails

But as you can see now LIBBA

was a huge one way trade :o I honestly couldn't believe it got passed even for a second lol.

yeah we were pretty happy with it to say the least
but that is why we reversed as Ax regretted and we couldn't blame him for that

damn you Ax why you at Tokyo now :(

... ok...

I've made it more complicated :P But only how to work out salaries!

Holz brings a good point how salary cap over values mids. That is true. So bare with me.

For this analysis:

All defender-midfielders are considered defenders
All forward-midfielders are considered forwards
All ruck-forwards are considered rucks
All defender-forwards are considered forwards

Over the first 17 AFL rounds:

Defenders have played a total of 2001 AFL matches at an average of 70.30
Midfielders have played a total of 2193 AFL matches at an average of 82.02
Rucks have played a total of 451 matches at an average of 80.04
Forwards have played a total of 1691 matches at an average of 70.11

So I've adjusted each player's original salary I did before, but giving them a multiplier so they all equal the midfielders average:

Defenders salaries multiplied by 1.17, Mids by 1.00, rucks by 1.02 and forwards by 1.17

BUT there's a scarcity issue. Rucks are hard to come by (only 1.67 rucks available to fill the 1 ruck spot in each team), but forwards are even harder (only 6.26 forwards available to fill the 4 forward spots, or 1.57 for each forward spot). Defenders are at 1.85 per position, and midfielders 2.03. BUT as most people put midfielders on the interchange (66%) I had to adjust for that, with 13% of interchange players defenders, 12% ruck and 9% forwards (which really shows that it is forwards, not rucks, that are the problem).

So multiplied salaries again by a new multiplier (1.00 for defenders, 1.03 for midfielders, 1.20 for rucks and 1.17 for forwards) to compensate for that...

.... Basically the new salaries have substantially increased the value of forwards, and a bit less so for rucks. Which I think makes sense... The new top 20 salaries (again based on average from last 3 years):

Surname   Given   Club   SalaryAdj
Dangerfield   Patrick   Seoul Magpies   $768,000
Harvey   Brent   Buenos Aires Armadillos   $702,000
Franklin   Lance   Dublin Destroyers   $683,000
Ablett   Gary jnr   Sao Paulo Pumas   $672,000
Pavlich   Matthew   Mexico City Suns   $669,000
Martin   Dustin   Moscow Spetsnaz   $665,000
Chapman   Paul   Buenos Aires Armadillos   $663,000
Riewoldt   Nick   Mexico City Suns   $660,000
Roughead   Jarryd   Sao Paulo Pumas   $657,000
Cox   Dean   Buenos Aires Armadillos   $656,000
Rioli   Cyril   PNL Reindeers   $648,000
Maric   Ivan   Mexico City Suns   $639,000
Minson   Will   Sao Paulo Pumas   $632,000
Goldstein   Todd   Dublin Destroyers   $629,000
Pendlebury   Scott   Toronto Wolves   $628,000
Petrie   Drew   Buenos Aires Armadillos   $627,000
Sandilands   Aaron   Mexico City Suns   $626,000
Zorko   Dayne   Berlin Brewers   $621,000
Naitanui   Nic   Moscow Spetsnaz   $617,000
Gray   Robbie   Dublin Destroyers   $613,000

Midfielders aren't worth as much because they are freely available, and they score higher. I actually like this list a lot better, as forwards and rucks really are at a premium.

And the total salaries for each team:

PNL Reindeers   $17,060,000
Toronto Wolves   $16,496,000
Buenos Aires Armadillos   $15,838,000
London Royals   $15,604,000
Mexico City Suns   $15,590,000
Sao Paulo Pumas   $15,570,000
Dublin Destroyers   $15,491,000
Pacific Islanders   $15,247,000
Cape Town Cobras   $15,101,000
Tokyo Samurai   $15,034,000
Cairo Sands   $14,863,000
Wellington Warriors   $14,832,000
Berlin Brewers   $14,764,000
New York Revolution   $14,226,000
Moscow Spetsnaz   $14,190,000
Seoul Magpies   $13,542,000
New Delhi Tigers   $12,946,000
Beijing Thunder   $12,536,000

Which is a very interesting new table....

London's very high, pretty much because they have players like Hudson ($556k), Brown ($471k) and Q Lynch ($464k) who will all be gone next year, and plenty of other players like Bellchambers ($492k), Staker ($524k) and J Hill ($460k) who have all had disappointing years really. I wouldn't panic if I was London.

Other's that are high like PNL and Toronto are because they have a fair few forwards and rucks, and have great depth in general. While the only other abnormally high salary is Pacific - who actually have a whopping 12 forwards and rucks worth $400k or more.

I like these salaries better, what are your thoughts?

Will be working on a toned down 'poaching' strategy also....

You're right, that's complicated.

I don't understand it at all.  :-[

Then I saw Giles is our 'big 5' and got even more mindflowered.  :-X

DazBurg

so forwards are most scarce?
well seems we are screwed in poaching then

be interested to see how it is going to work
as basically it seems our 1 trade advantage is having alot of fowards

Remember the scores are based on 2013 averages Nigey :P. Why Wingard/Griffin is high up on our one despite less than stellar years from them. Oss handles all the harder work, but pretty much just made it for the system to take into account scarcity of forwards in the league compared to other positions (as well as Defenders/Rucks as well in general). As the other system would value mainly mids highly.

I understand it, I just don't like it because PNL are once again on top of the highest salaries :P.
