An interesting read on taggers.

Obviously Crowley is one to stay away from when picking players/captains/etc, but interesting that Curnow won 15 of 18 battles and Macaffer won 14 of 16.

The best taggers last season:

Master Q

I think a few coaches last year kept Curnow in mind (as well as Crowley).

Those are really the only 2 players that I think could effect my captaincy choice. Interesting to see Jones so low though.

I think a lot of it comes down to who your player is as well. I noticed that Cotchin scored tons and was BOG when he was tagged by Carrazzo and Raines who are no pushovers.

Surprised that Cassisi has a 100% record too!

As long as Crowley plays footy though I'm not captaining a player vs Freo :P

I would be more careful with Raines than that thing suggests. Gaz is the only one who doesnt average sub 100 who he tags.

Cotchin has gone 103 and 105 when tagged by Raines :)

raines keeps gary to 35 touches, thats a win

Ringo

No need to worry about Raines imop as he may not be in Brisbane's best 22 this year unless its horses for courses.

Like most I will be wary of Captains choices if Crowley playing for Fremantle/

I thought this to be honest.

Interesting stats.

I'm with the general consensus on Crowley, very weary of a DT Captain playing Freo and will continue to be this year.

As others have said, Raines seems to be slipping in and out of the Brisbane 22 at the moment so he's less of a worry (although he does at times put on a good tag).

I'm not sure what to think of Carlton, they seem to love tagging at the moment but as Ele pointed out, sometimes the tags aren't that restricting on DT scores so I'll keep them in mind when selecting a captain but not at the same level as Fremantle yet.

As for Cassissi, would he be the #1 tagger at PA? Interesting stat, but from what I gather Port's main "tagger" is K.Cornes taking on a run with role (as opposed to a hard tag) on the oppositions premier midfielder, is Cassissi's perfect record last year helped out by not having to do jobs on some of the big guns? Not taking anything away from him as a player as I love his work, jut wondering if that stat is a little misleading :P

Another team I'm starting to worry about with taggers is GWS, who have developed some good little taggers in Whiley and co. Might become more prominent this year!

I can't remember all of Cassisi's tagging assignments last year, but I do remember in Rd.4 last season Ablett had 15 possessions in the first quarter with Cornes on him and then Cassisi restricted him to about 20 for the remaining 3 quarters.

Ricochet

FF has Cassisi's tagging jobs as:
RD4 on Ablett
RD5 on Kerr
RD6 on Wells
RD13 on McVeigh
RD14 on Pendles but was subbed off in Q2
EF on Pendles

Toga

Ok so that's some pretty impressive stats for him then! Might be one to consider when choosing captains! :o

Ricochet

Yeh just looking into it more.

FF has Cassisi's tagging jobs as:
RD4 on Ablett 118DT but 64 across 3 quarters Cassisi was on him
RD5 on Kerr 48DT but past his prime. Not the #1 target these days
RD6 on Wells 84DT which is his average so not too concerning
RD13 on McVeigh 93DT but only 62 in 3 quarters while Cassisi was on him
RD14 on Pendles but was subbed off in Q2 Pendles had 39DT in the first quarter
EF on Pendles 95DT for the game

Bit of a mixed bag really.

Capper

I dont like that 2 of Carltons kids are being used as taggers. Set them free, Curnow had great numbers his first year.

What happened to malthouse not tagging??

Jroo

Crowley for me is one the best taggers to play.
Curnow is good and I reckon he is quite underrated.
Thanks Ric, definitely need to keep this in mind when selecting captains.
