First look at 2014 and I think a pretty solid team and would love to get some thoughts

Def: McVeigh, Mitchell, Birchall, Hanley, Suckling, Kolodjashnij, McDonald (Fuller, Battersby)

Mid: Ablett, Pendlebury, Murphy, Beams, Thomas, Martin, Tyson, Ellis (Morabito, Dunstan)

Ruck: Naitanui, Sandilands (Nankervis, Lobb)

For: Dangerfield, Martin, Franklin, Pavlich, Higgins, Hogan (Kersten, Garlett)

Money Remaining: $7,400

Byes: Round 8 (10), Round 9 (10), Round 10 (10)

I'm a bit hesitant about my midfield as I feel it may be weeks as well as the 2 rookies in defense but would love to hear any thoughts or suggestions from the veteran coaches on here

colmullet

pretty similar to my setup....although ya have one to many on field backs their i think man.

watch NicNat in the NAB if he's moving ok, lots of question marks over his fitness and just an eye on rooks

Indeed I do well picked up please ignore birchall.

Team should read:

Def: McVeigh, Mitchell, Hanley, Suckling, Kolodjashnij, McDonald (Fuller, Battersby)

Mid: Ablett, Pendlebury, Murphy, Beams, Thomas, Martin, Tyson, Ellis (Morabito, Dunstan)

Ruck: Naitanui, Sandilands (Nankervis, Lobb)

For: Dangerfield, Martin, Franklin, Pavlich, Higgins, Hogan (Kersten, Garlett)

Money Remaining: $7,400

Byes: Round 8 (10), Round 9 (10), Round 10 (10)

Does anyone have any suggestions to make a stronger team? A big part of me wants to put toumpas in the midfield instead of ellis but didn't have the cash

DEF - 4 "premo" route, its good, personally i'm not comfortable playing 2 rookies every week on the field.

MID - GAJ/Pendles. SUPER strong. Murphy/Beams/Thomas are bargains. i think Murphy/Beams will go 110+, and Daisy 100+

RUC - Nicnat is underpriced and should get back to his best, Sandi super bargain.

FWD - Danger/Dusty is a must. Franklin & Pav will get back to their best without contract talks and a full preseason. Higgins is an interesting one, risky but he can pump out 80-90s, if his body can hold out he'll make you some very very decent cash.

Like it, similar to my set up at the moment, don't mind two rookie defenders, McDonald and KK seem two of the safer rookie choices going around at the moment, good job

Is this team better or worse? Toumpas is ripping up preseason training and could explode this year!!!
Essentially the changes are:

Pavlich to Motlop
Pendlebury to Watson
Ellis to Toumpas

http://www.geelongcats.com.au/news/2014-01-17/cats-cautious-on-motlop

Geelong is playing a game of wait and see with young gun Steven Motlop who is struggling with a knee injury.

Motlop has been experiencing the same patella tendonitis problem he carried through the 2013 season throughout this preseason.

The Cats are unsure as yet whether the injury will require surgery but are confident Motlop will not spend a significant amount of the early part of the season on the sidelines.

General manager of football, Neil Balme, said the Cats will remain cautious with the young star.

"The injury is something Steven has managed through the 2013 season and unfortunately it is still causing him some problems." Balme said.

"His workload has been managed so far but we aren't seeing the results from this we had hoped."

"We are unsure yet whether taking the surgical option is the best course of action but a decision will be made on that in due course."

"We don't imagine if we went with the surgery option it would cause him to miss a significant part of the start of the season as it would be fairly minor."

Motlop exploded on the AFL scene in 2013 becoming a crucial part of the Cats line-up.

why Pendles to Jobe?? Pendles will outscore Jobe.
Pendles Tonned up 20 times last year, and the 2 times he didnt was against Freo (96) and GWS (92)
120+ 11 times, with a Standard Deviation of ONLY 22.
Which is the 2nd best out of the top 10 MIDS (1st was Barlow with 19)

Perfect captain choice. Jobe will improve, but will he outscore pendles?? I think not.

Hippo

for me its not better

i would reverse all 3 changes

Get Mora out as he WILL NOT play rd 1

Higgins i believe has only just started kicking the ball again let alone training properly - you really want that risk.

If you know Toumpas is ripping up the PS then i'm surprised you don't have the pocket rocket fwd from the same team that is also smashing the PS

Thanks for the responses. The reason for no JKH is that Roos very rarely plays 1st year drafties straight away even though I have seen him live and just wow!

How about this team then:

Def: McVeigh, Mitchell, Hanley, Suckling, Kolodjashnij, McDonald (Fuller, Battersby)

Mid: Ablett, Pendlebury, Murphy, Beams, Thomas, Martin, Tyson, Morabito (O'Rourke, Dunstan)

Ruck: Naitanui, Sandilands (Nankervis, Brown)

For: Dangerfield, Martin, Franklin, Dixon, Clark, Hogan (JKH, Garlett)

Money Remaining: $4,200

Byes: Round 8 (11), Round 9 (8), Round 10 (11)

So thats:

Higgins to Clark
Pavlich to Dixon
Ellis to O'Rourke
Kersten to JKH

I think I'm onto a winner!!! Instant winner

Def: McVeigh, Mitchell, Simpson, Grimes, Suckling, McDonald (Fuller, Battersby)

Mid: Ablett, Pendlebury, Griffen, Beams, Thomas, Martin, Tyson, Morabito (O'Rourke, Dunstan)

Ruck: Naitanui, Sandilands (Nankervis, Brown)

For: Dangerfield, Martin, Franklin, Clark, Hogan, Bock (JKH, Garlett)

Money Remaining: $1,700

Byes: Round 8 (9), Round 9 (10), Round 10 (11)

I've gone for a strong midfield and defense lines, along with a ruck line that could dominate although fairly standard. Up forward I have chosen the three best forwards and cheap options that should explode, whilst bock, clark and hogan are risky for round one they can easily be swapped for a rookie and a mid pricer or traded to higgins if he is playing

_wato

No faults on this team whatsoever mate! Good choice of premiums down back, one rookie again good.

Mids very strong, would much rather Rockliff/Watson over Griffen, dunno how he'll handle this year with the captaincy and all from last year.. Can he improve? That's the question.

Rucks are standard, looks good.

Forwards are decent, good choice if premiums, and mid prices. Make sure your D4, 5 &6 are all playing prior to Round 1 as you suggested.

Best of luck man :)

Bones Bombers

That team looks very good, possibly a little too good.
Think you are around 70k over the cap.
Popped it into SC Gold to see if it fitted, as I didn't think it would.
Would tell you the exact figure but my phone didn't like me going from page to page, so I lost it.
Very good base to work from though.

themoneyball

Yeah mate, you are 70k over. Also Lyon said morabito will come back throough the wafl!
Clark, grimes and bock all good picks if they can stay fit, thats a big if. Im not sure if bock has premium scoring in him anymore... 55-65 from him. .?
Your team is pretty solid though!
Good luck
