just read this one

Sam has grown in height by about 5cms and has bulked up as well. The fight is well and truly on for the back up ruck to Pyke

QuoteSwans defender Alex Johnson is expected to join team training by the end of the month after making significant progress on the track in the new year

QuoteLongmire said senior players Adam Goodes, Lewis Roberts-Thomson, Mike Pyke and Kurt Tippett are also making good progress on the track this month and should also start to filter back into group skills sessions in late January.

Quote"Tommy Mitchell is probably in the same boat as Goodesy and LRT in that he's in the group situation with skills and he's coming back and doing that now, which is a really long way ahead of where we thought he was going to be when he got injured against Carlton last season," he said.

QuoteIn other injury news, Rhyce Shaw, who underwent LARS surgery late last season and Sam Reid, who missed a large chunk of 2013 with successive quad injuries, have resumed team training.

Mailman the 2nd

Shaw said he was a certainty for round 1

Any chance Laidler could play early on?

I would have thought he is a chance. Seems like the perfect fit, but may need some luck.

Lots of competition in the backline now. Will get a chance in the NAB but Round 1 will depend on how he performs.

If I am brave enough I reckon he is a great d6. Risk being him and Suckling coming off injury. 8)

Shaw also said that he still needs Horse to pick him. He meant he will be 100% fit for round 1.

Haven't read this yet but just drawing attention to it ...

Sounds like Jones is fitting in well at the club. From that intraclub match report it says he impressed Longmire in the game. Then there is also this article that says that everyone is loving his competitiveness and determination that he is showing at training. Also says that he loves Sydney, so a good sign for the "go home" factor...

Yeah, saw this one, and watched the vid. He does look likely. Probably not going to get any time this year, but when the Goodes, ROK etc retire will fit in nicely with the Parker/Mitchell/Jack/Hanners midlfield

Yeah agree it's doubtful that he will get games this year, but he strikes me as the type of guy that not playing any games would spur him on further and make him more determined to do well when he does get a game, whereas others would get disheartened and go in to their shell.

Mailman the 2nd

Blokes like Rampe, Johnson, B. Jack and co. were never expected to get early games in their first year but they all did!

Strange how in Sydney the higher round picks tend to play a lot earlier than the first ones
