In my professional opinion The Sandlot wasn't worth seeing and should be taken out of the poll.  :P

Sprained my ankle so laid up all day in bed yesterday, watched some movies.

Upgrade - Pretty cool sci fi movie in the vain of Black Mirror, some cool aspects lending to the tech in the future.  Good action, story line and a touch of humour.  Short and entertaining, just how I like these types of movies. 6.5/10

Summer of '84 - Cashing on the Stranger Things popularity, story line was pretty standard, no real twists just carried on and ended as you would've thought.  Typical 80's slasher flick, however it's not he 80's any more. Not terrible, but I wouldn't bother either. 3/10

Hereditary - This one was pretty flowered up, some graphic imagery.  Did what a horror is meant to do...made me freak at any sound I heard.  Kid was creep AF.  Ppl didn't like the ending, but I was happy with the way they went.  Slow and builds the tension, not knowing what's real. 7.5/10

Patient Zero - flowering yuck. 2/10

Went and saw two movies over the last couple weeks - two horror (tis the season) movies 40 years after their originals.

Firstly, Halloween. Pretty good, very predictable and not enough character development but it’s still a good showcase of Michael Myers flowering shower up and Laurie/Jamie Lee Curtis being a fantastic actress, not much more you could want or expect from a Halloween sequel. Probably wouldn’t rate it ahead of the original or it’s first sequel, but much much better than all the sequels/remakes aside from H20. Solid 7.5/10

Second, Suspiria. The original Suspiria is one of my favourite horror movies of all time (top three), so I definitely had high expectations for this one, but probably also a bias to think it’s better than it is. It is NOTHING like the original aside from characters and being in a 70s German ballet school run by witches. It’s probbaly unfair to compare it to the original seeing as they’re so different but I can’t help myself. This one is a lot more disturbing to say the least - lots of female (mostly good) and male (bad) nudity, lots of gruesome killing going on, and a lot of violent and sexual imagery. Would not recommend for anybody under 18 or screaming adults, it’s pretty flowered up in a few scenes. I appreciate that it’s a good movie - Dakota Johnson (what a cutie btw even when you find out how flowered up she is) and Tilda Swinton are amazing - but I can’t say I liked it near as much as the original - but it’s still a great movie that I’ll probably rewatch to understand it a bit better. Solid 8.5/10 but it’s probably better to see it if you haven’t seen the original as it draws comparisons that shouldn’t be made, if that makes sense.

Might have to give it a go Jukes (Suspiria), haven't seen the first so can watch that afterwards from the sounds of things.

What did you think of Hereditary, I presume you've seen it?

I highly recommend watching both Suspiria's if you're into horror, the first is a classic while the 2018 version is insane but good - but in WA it's in very limited showing, only four cinemas are showing it as far as I know - Palace Raine Square, Luna Leederville, Luna Palace in Freo, and Event Innaloo. But the two have very little to do with one another so it doesn't matter at all in what order you watch the two in.

I thought Hereditary was okay, nothing special though. Got hyped up so much online so was a little let down when I didn't feel it met the standards set for it.

I'm in WA too, but i will most likely wait for it...

Didn't mind hereditary, there were some scenes that were the stuff of nightmares, don't really dislike too many movies these days though.  Anything else you can recommend over the past say 18 months?  Got a few horror movies lined up, but prefer to watch good ones first.

While you wait try watching the 1977 version. Legitimate classic of the genre and you can LEGALLY watch it online for free at https://tubitv.com/movies/326260/suspiria

In terms of 2017 and 2018 horror - the aforementioned (by me) Halloween reboot was decent. Annihilation was good but maybe more sci-fi? A Quiet Place and Get Out were good but overrated. Mother was pretty decent as well. I haven't really watched much new horror recently, aside from reboots. 2010s horror just can't compare to 70s and 80s.

One I watched on SBS a while back called It Follows , low budget but quite well done not real scary but kept me on the edge of my seat

jvalles69

Yep, all great calls which I've seen, will wait on Halloween, and have yet to watch Mother so that may be next on my list.  Ones I have ready to go are Killing of a Sacred Deer, Slenderman (this looks horrible), The Nun, Winchester, Wildling, Insidious (the most recent one), Jigsaw...so you can see my reluctance to start these...
