Thinking of doing something very rare and going to the cinemas to see Guardians of the galaxy, normally not into superhero movies, but the first one was awesome, and the missus loves superhero movies haha

I went to it on the weekend. It wasn't as good as the first, but still worth a watch. It felt a little like it was being milked and developed to a more casual viewer than those that love the franchise and comics.

Watched the new horror movie Get Out from comedian Peele.  Loved it!

Enjoyed the first half/build up a lot more than the second half but still gets a positive rating. Not sure that it should be called a horror film though.

Saw Guardian last night, was entertaining, but a joke every few seconds was a bit much.

Any Horror movie suggestions to watch with someone who doesn't like jump scare horror?

Insidious
Sinister
The Conjuring

Most horror these days have some sort of jump scares in them.  Those are good ones over the past 10 years off the top of my head.  If I think of any more when I'm home I'll post them up.

Let me clarify a little bit as ive seen all of those myself and The Conjuring was the only one that id say wasn't jump scare heavy.

Im not really trying to work this out for myself though. I love horror and don't care about whether it is jump scare heavy or more of a dark tone.

Recent ones like Don't Breath & Lights Out are good ones recently and the types im thinking. They are more about building the characters rather than just throwing jump scares at you all the time. While they do have jump scares, it isn't the way they building the horror and tension into the movie.

Ps. No Clowns ive been told.

Hush is great on Netflix, kinda like Don't Breathe, but the victim is deaf.  I've heard It Follows is ok too, but haven't seen that one yet.
Ive seen Hush, solid movie and an interesting take on the home invasion genre. Loved the ambience sound randomly going dead quiet and putting you into the shoes of the main character.
It Follows isn't too bad, it has had lots of hype and didn't do much for me, I felt it more comedy that horror, but then again I didn't really connect with the whole premise.

Feeling that I will probably go Mama which was Executive Produced by Guillermo Del Toro, who is one of my favourites.

Mama was great until the CGI happened.  Do you like M. Night Shymalen?  Split I loved, kinda horror/thriller.

Autopsy of Jane Doe I liked.  The Monster is good too, more of a sad story with a beast in the background.

So ended up watching Mama.

Brilliant movie with the exception of the CGI which sort of disconnected you from everything else.
The fact that I still feel it was one of the better I have seen recently is a testament to how good the actual movie was.

Replace the CGI parts with a well developed human played character and i think that it could have been award winning and one of the best of the generation.

That ended though was Brutal!!!

Agreed, and they were really terrible jokes as well. The first was a lot better. This one was just meh.

Watched John Wick 2 last night, not sure why ppl are raving about it saying it's one of the best action films of this decade etc.  Was hyper violent to the nth degree, the body count is insane.  Quite a few issues that don't fit with the first film which I loved.  Not sure about this, might have to give it a second watch at some stage.

Watched A Cure for Wellness today, interesting thriller, enjoyed it, but was quite slow and tonnes of plot holes.

Went and saw Alien Covenant tonight. Pretty good.
Sits post Prometheus, which I thought was shower, and pre Alien (original) in the scheme of things.
I love the Ripley Alien movies and this sits nicely with them. Not as good (hard to match Aliens which is utterly brilliant) but this one is worth the watch nonetheless. Enough action, suspense and story line for me. There will be more coming after this one too. Happy days for Alien fans.

WA day yesterday, was on-call for work so had a movie day.  One sentence reviews.

Life - Meh

Lego Batman Movie - not as good as the Lego Movie, but entertaining nonetheless, especially if you're a comic fan.

Resolution - if you're into thrillers/horror thats outside the box then see it, movie of the day for me, and one of the better films I've seen recently.

Saw John Wick 2 on Friday and enjoyed it for what it was but I can see why some people wouldn't as much. I think Keanu is fantastic though and he plays the titular character so well. Not essential to see the first one before this but it does help. 7/10 for me.

I'm prob going to rewatch both back to back because 2 starts straight after the 1st one so I'd argue you have to see the 1st one first, and because it also lends to the lore of John Wick.

New PotC was good, really enjoyed it

Also saw The Accountant last night (finally), loved it

That is true, but there are a few hints/mentions of how he's in the position he is at the start of the story. I mean, naturally it helps to watch the first before a sequel but I think people would still be able to make sense of the events that transpire without having seen the original John Wick. People should watch the first anyway though because it's that flowering good haha.
