Essendon ruckman Tom Bellchambers will undergo surgery on his injured ankle, sidelining him for at least three months.

Sandilands cos he's cheap - ill take the risk

McEvoy - normally averages 90, he only averaged 75 last year and with him going to Hawthorn i would expect him to go back to his 90 average and even more. Hawthorn must be wrapped now they have a decent number 1 ruck again.

Derickx and Currie

Yeah I'm thinking pretty much the same mate, haha. Mcevoy could be underpriced as you said.

#1 Stkilda

I am running with Mcevoy/Grundy. Noticed none of you guys have selected Grundy. Would you pick him and why/why not?

Nothing wrong with him, I'm just not 100% sure how well he will back up from the back end of last season. It'll be interesting and he's got a massive test first up with Sandi/Clarke at the G!

I've gone Sandi-Hmac atm :o

I've gone nicnat sandi at this stage, although nicnats injuries are worrying so might get big boy instead.

minson goldy, probably the ruck combo you will want to finish with and i would rather use my trades elsewhere.

lets me use 1-2 more trades doing sideways rookie moves to make an extra 250-300k and thats more than i see guys like sandi, hmac etc... going up with less risk.

Well no, you'll use 1-2 extra trades to upgrade the two extra midpricers/rookie you have to play to compensate for spending big in the rucks.

Scrads

McEvoy, Sandi + Rookies. Perhaps Longer as solid back up/cash generation.

depends though if you have a guy like sandi or hmac i feel you either need to have a decent r3 (longer) which wastes cash or there will be a few times that you are left playing a donut. I dont take donuts so if sandi has any small 1-2 week injury he is out of my team and i see that being pretty early.

If you go loaded mid rookies than you have 2 decent ones on the bench and the risk is much lower as i have faith in my mid rookies. They will also go up more than midpricer rucks.

Am considering starting with Premo - Sandi / Hmac - Rookie.

That should reduce the chance of copping a ruck donut. Plus I can - hopefully- limit myself to two trades (upgrade/downgrade) on that line. There's plenty of value in the midfield this season so am happy to pay a little more for R3 just for peace of mind.

Big blow for the bombers. Huge pressure on Ryder, now. Thurlow a likely type but will be raw. Carlisle will have to chip in.

Memphistopheles

I am thinking of one of two options.

Either Minson/Goldstein + Sandilands + two rookies (Thurlow/Nankervis or Derickx)

Or

Sandlilands + Hickey + Longer + rookie (Thurlow).

First one gives me security with Minson a safe option and Sandi a risky one while the second one gives me me more options and is also pretty similar in price to the first option (just a few thousand more expensive).

Is he a safe option though? McEvoy, Jacobs and Maric are just a few examples of rucks that we thought were safe bets after last year only to be burnt by them this year.

That is the reason why I don't think it's worth starting with top end rucks (however I do think Goldstein is a fairly safe bet as his 2012 season was only so poor due to HMac taking ruck time).

I think Minson is.

Hi safety lies in the fact that not only is he the undisputed #1 ruck at the Bulldogs and that he racks up so many points in hit-outs.

Last season his lowest total for hitouts was 27. And he scored 112 that game!

Also his consistency was amazing last year. He scored below 70 just once. By comparison Goldstein dropped below 70 three times.

I'm pretty sure I'll be running with that for a line (but with HMac over Sandi at R2)
