Summary
Although he comes at a decent price tag, Varcoe could be a unique edge to get your team both cash and points. After Geelong's midfield and ruck clearance in which it lost several good players such as Chapman, Corey, Hunt, Podsiadly and West, which could clear a way for Varcoe to both play and get fantasy points. Varcoe already has large AFL experience, having played over 100 games and in 2 premiership sides after being taken at pick 15 in the 2005 draft.

One major thing that has my attention on Varcoe is the AFL.com.au article, "Varcoe flying, Goddard on track."

QuoteBRILLIANT Geelong forward Travis Varcoe has returned to training in excellent shape after being touted as tradable during the off-season.

Varcoe was praised by teammate Tom Hawkins on the Geelong website as a standout since the Cats returned to work on Monday.

"...Trav was on fire today, he came back and was running at top speed which is sometimes not encouraged on our first day back but it's fantastic to see - so there are some good signs for those boys," Hawking told Cats TV.

Varcoe, 25, was palced on the trade table by Geelong in October, but remained a Cat after a suitable deal did not eventuate.

Verdict: To make you cash, Varcoe only has to average over 55. I believe if he remains injury-free Varcoe can average 80 due to his superb pre-season so far and a more important role in the side due to the departure of several key cats, giving you an approximate price increase of $140,000.

Nice profile Jukes(y) .. if he was a little bit cheaper i might take a punt on him. Great bloke as Grazz will say but a little too inconsistent for me at that price.

Rabid Hamster

There are so many good options in the 115k-220k range that opting for Varcoe at 298k just doesn't make sense.

Adamant

Isn't everyone flying on the track during the pre-season?

Jukesy

I'm not saying put him in just yet, but if he fires in the nab cup/challenge he's a decent chance. Could put on a fast 150k.

Clark...? Guys like Honeychurch, Garlett, Patton and Bock aren't nearly guarenteed as many games as an uninjured Varcoe should get.

Clark, Fasolo, Nahas, Garlett, L Taylor, Bock, Kersten. Of course, it depends on whether they get named for round 1/2, but I would rather get the cheaper player and upgrade elsewhere than get Varcoe.

Jukesy

Fasolo nowhere near best 22 imo. Rest all fringe players.

I'd lean towards paying the added premium and have a guy who'll play every game when not injured, if he proves to be just that.

Vinny

I agree although I won't go near Varcoe. From those you listed only ones that will start Round 1 I think are Kersten, Clark, Patton and Bock/Fasolo if they are lucky. Nice write up mate.

Jukes

Anybody considering him any more after his 85 against Collingwood?
