Fingers crossed he due for some luck plus he is cheap and round 9 bye as well

Providing Higgins gets through the upcoming NAB Challenge game and is named round 1, you really don't have much to lose.

Even if he only plays 18 or so games, he should at least make 150k (hopefully around 200k) to upgrade him to a premium by the bye rounds.

If he does get injured early on, there are enough players around his price range or cheaper that you can switch him to.

Almost a lock at F5 for me.

What's that? It's the sound of glass breaking! Considering but he is the soft tissue queen..

I have him atm.

And I really want him if he's going to do well (which I think he is)... but at the same time, I really don't want to have to trade him out if and/or when he gets injured.  :(

I think I'll stick with him if he's named Round 1.

I think he will be vested early and often in the season.

This is also somewhat of a worry. I feel like given his history of injuries, even if he is named Round 1, that they could ease him into it with a vest or two.

I posted this in a different thread, but it is relevant to this one as well

I was thinking about something the other day, would Higgins actually be in the Doggies best 22 anymore? Last year we saw the coaching staff phased Cross out of the team to blood the youngsters, they very well could do the same with Higgins. Considering he is made of glass he is an ideal vest candidate. I wouldn't be surprised if they try and get games into Hunter, Hrovat and the likes at the expense of Higgins. He would have to go the Gia route and be very open to starting with the green most weeks and being a burst player otherwise he may not be in the team at all.

I see him getting the vest with Gia early in the season. I watched a bit of the Dogs vs Saints game and Hunter was looking the goods with Dahlhaus early in that game. I still think he either gets a vest or he doesn't get a game with the direction they are heading.

I'm fairly certain that if he breaks down once more, they'll run out of patience and table him for somebody willing to take the punt.

He turns 26 in the first week of March, so he could potentially have quite a number of years left in him depending on his body.

Higgins is easily in the best 22, this of course is dependent on fitness but he's played enough high class football to make it in a bottom 4 side. He's also 25 years of age, still plenty of time to show his wares, one could argue he's about to enter his prime.

The prime of his injury career  :o can he take it to the next level and go 2 BROKEN LEGS IN ONE GAME!  :P

100% agree. Higgins is a high quality footballer when playing and is highly rated among some. Easily in the Dogs best 22.
I would argue that Gia given his age and role last year will remain with that role and the younger blokes will be ones to sub off. I would even go as far to say some of the big men could make way to give more run late in games which they did in spurs last year to win at the crucial times of games. Just a thought.

If he breaks down he gets traded out, he will be traded at some point anyway. For his price and the fact there's not much in the way of forward rookies, I'd say he's a risk worth taking. This will be dependent on his NAB Cup output, but if he looks sharp I'll back him in until the byes.

Thing is everyone knocks Higgins, myself included, but we have to admit, he's a serious talent. So the only thing we all gamble on is his body. Most of us would have been burnt once, twice, three times (not me ), so even at his price, he probably should only  be looked at in AF. Even then it's a worry, but the year (if theres one ),he has a injury free year, those who start with him will have a jump on the pack

ps  should of added, I hav'nt got him

higgins v caddy? ... think they will score the same ... but we have to pay a little bit extra for the decreased risk of injury

opinions?

I think Higgins is more likely to ton up, Caddy has achieved the feat just once in his 42 games, and that was an even 100 against Adelaide.
