There's an awful lot of Higgins bashing in the media, I'm not sure he deserves all the ridicule that's been dished out.

Fact 1. Ignoring last year, Higgins has played 17, 16, 18, & 19 matches, over this time he's averaged 89, 77, 82 & 79. not great but certainly not as injury plagued as some like Mitch Clark who has been immune from criticism.

Fact 2. In the past 4 seasons, Higgins has strung together a minimum of 5-6 games at the beginning of the season and these have generally been his stand out performances, scores which are comparable to other premium players.

Fact 3. Higgins is being managed so that he will be right for round 1, he's on light duties due to the Dogs being cautious and not because he's so far behind the eightball.

Fact 4. Higgins should not be viewed as an under performing premo, he should be viewed as a cash cow who requires 4-5 price rises to justify his inclusion, he's priced to score in the 50's yet his previous form in the early rounds puts him in the 90-100 category.

If he's right by round 1 he's a bargain, at the moment he's a locked in and will remain there unless he's not fit for the season opener.

Think it's because he had a lot of potential and because his body has let him down so many times it is very hard to justify his bad press lets face it I'm sure he is a lot more pissed off than any one else could ever be

Bully you make some very good points. Also looking at his average vs opponents it's not inconceivable that he could go 70-80 average if his body can stay good. That's worth a strong look if he survives NAB cup.

Dear bully , great write up , but don't go talking some into getting him . . In my side and happy for others to leave him alone . .
But I do have all fingers crossed . . .

Speculator

He's easily worth the risk at that price. Brendan McCartney has identified half back / wing as his likely position, very fantasy friendly, bulldogs have a good draw, it will only take 5/6 injury free games at the start of the year to make him a successful pick. Anything more than that is a bonus in my book. By that stage he'll be upgradable to a premo for not too much cash if any.

Has anyone heard anything on Missy! I cant seem to find much and a quick look on BF they seem to think he is maybe doubtful for rd1.

Lets say he misses but McCartney comes out before rd one and says Shaun's been training really well but just to make sure, we wont be starting him until rd2 or definitely rd3. Would you risk starting him on your bench for the first 1-2 weeks or burn a trade to get him in if you really want him?

For the record i cant believe i'm considering Higgins ??? but if he is fully fit come rd 2-3 he should score very well for his price.

Bully

To pick him you'd have to have a brief sighter in the NAB Cup, if he's incognito then best to look elsewhere. He might make a good downgrade target down the track though.

Higgins was last seen adorning the new Bulldogs mascot costume which is said to have been tailor made to his exact measurements.

Fasolo seems to be the better (safer) option. He is 50k less and averaged 75 in 2012 with a season-high 142 SC coming in rd 23 against the bombers. That average also includes a season-low 27 when he was subbed off against Adelaide in rd 9.

Conceivably with a decent pre-season he could go 80+ quite comfortably.

cortez

But he hasn't had a decent preseason...

I think Higgins will score more than Fasolo but i have got an eye on him. Think higgins would have better JS too.
If Fasolo could go 80+ like you say i would probably swap out my f4 for him and replace young J Martin in the mids with another gun :-\ An idea that i have toyed with but a lot hinges on Martin. Sceptical of Fas and this idea atm as it seems to make the fwd line look to weak.

Early days and watching Nab closely, Just trying to find some Higgins news :)

Bully

Higgins named, definitely one to keep an close eye on.

Fragile.

Hopefully he becomes a point of difference, Higgins has a tendency to start like a house on fire, I'll back him to play the first 8 games.

colmullet

he is a little fragile but has played over 15 games 4 of the last 5 seasons, if he lines up round 1 he's worth a punt as an on field scoring cash cow i think
