With Waters going down, I've shuffled my side slightly and have found myself considering Shaun Higgins, am I crazy? is he worth the punt? Has anyone heard how he us training early on, and Dogs supporters have some good insight?

Cheers.

Last I heard he was still in a modified program with rehab but hopeful for round 1. I have him in my side until he isn't named. He's too cheap to pass up

Thanks mate. Well yeh, he oozes class and if he can be named round one that was my thinking too. I'd just hate to see him go down in round 3 or 4, so early.

Even if he stays injury free I still don't think he warrants selection anymore.
He scored well playing as a high half fwd/mid but the dogs have developed a pretty strong midfield in recent times so Higgins role will become basically a permanent forward.
If I'm going to risk it in a super injury prone player I want to feel that they could average 95+ if they stay on the park. I think Higgins will average 75 even if un injured

Yeh, I have him at F5, I'm not looking for 95+, I'd be happy with around 85 for say the first half of the season before upgrading. There is Griffen, Boyd, Libba, Cooney, Stevens, who else would be keeping him out, I can see him playing through the middle also.

I would expect all of
Griffen
Boyd
Libba
Cooney
Wallis
Macrae
Smith
Stevens
Picken
Dahlhaus
To play more midfield time than Higgins. Then there's also The new recruits.

Higgins has a terrible injury history, the last thing they will want to do it put pressure on his body playing in the midfield. He will spend very minimal time there

Interesting. I'm sure he will be eased into it for sure. I'll wait and see for the pre season.

I can't remember where I read it, but I heard he won't be back until round 3-4. As you said, he won't be rushed back, they don't exactly need him anymore and he may even be used as the sub when he comes back. He won't play much midfield time at all.

But if he was named round one, I'd pick him that price. Guess you just have to wait and see what happens.

Hmmm that's a curve ball haha. I guess plan B would be Mitch Clark or Fasolo coming in for him.

They're decent options, if they stay fit.
Clark has been a good scorer in the past and I can see Fasolo improving.

Yeh, true. Probably leaning towards Clark.

Clark seems a far better option for F5 mate.
Higgins is the epitome of burn. His price is ridiculously cheap tho

There's an awful lot of Higgins bashing in the media, I'm not sure he deserves all the ridicule that's been dished out.

Fact 1. Ignoring last year, Higgins has played 17, 16, 18, & 19 matches, over this time he's averaged 89, 77, 82 & 79. not great but certainly not as injury plagued as some like Mitch Clark who has been immune from criticism.

Fact 2. In the past 4 seasons, Higgins has strung together a minimum of 5-6 games at the beginning of the season and these have generally been his stand out performances, scores which are comparable to other premium players.

Fact 3. Higgins is being managed so that he will be right for round 1, he's on light duties due to the Dogs being cautious and not because he's so far behind the eightball.

Fact 4. Higgins should not be viewed as an under performing premo, he should be viewed as a cash cow who requires 4-5 price rises to justify his inclusion, he's priced to score in the 50's yet his previous form in the early rounds puts him in the 90-100 category.

If he's right by round 1 he's a bargain, at the moment he's locked in and will remain there unless he's not fit for the season opener.
