Preparing for the future.

So we did it, we completely blasted the barbie pommies. As a pessimist, Ill admit I am stunned by the turnaround, full credit to the boys. We thoroughly deserve it, however, there is one thing that stands out, the age's of our squad members. The stark reality is that I feel 3, at most, of the current team will be there again to play the poms when it comes to our shores next. Steve Smith will be there, as will Nathan Lyon, David Warner maybe, but all players run out of form and I dont think he has the temperament out of form to be a consistent test cricketer.

So, not detracting from the success we just had, but, who are some players you think/would like to see be a part of the next ashes squad on home soil in 2016/2017? Who are some players for the future to keep an eye out for in the next 3 years leading up to it? What do you think an XI could look like?

Mailman the 2nd

Replacement for Haddin whether its Paine or Wade (or someone else I don't know) is going to be fairly crucial.

Rogers won't be there and I have suspicions that Clarke might not be there either so blokes like Phil Hughes and Jordan Silk are going to be pretty important in terms of batting development

I was thinking about it a little bit earlier, and I came up with this after discussing it with PB.

Im thinking that it could look something like this

Head
Sillk
Hughes
Smith (c)
Doolan
Faulkner (vc)
Whiteman
Pattinson
Starc/Cummins
McDermott
Lyon

Others to keep an eye on include

Sayers
Burns
Dunk
Ahmed

Thats just a tentative thought, it could be anything really, but I feel that those are some of the players to keep an eye on and will be around the mark when the time comes.

That looks morel the ashes team in 8 years, not the next ashes lol.

Agar at 3? ;)

Wade will replace Haddin and will be vice captain or even captain one day,  8)

Hughes will be there, Faulkner as the Watson replacement?

Hodge should still be good to go still, ;)

I'll be batting at 5 also

I tend to agree with this. Players like Clarke and Watson, I feel, will either reitre after the World Cup, or will try and make it to the next home Ashes and finish there, as long as injuries don't make their end come faster. This is more the XI I see.

Warner
Silk
Watson
Clarke
Hughes
Smith
Paine/Wade
Starc/Bird - could be any of a number of decent quicks here
Pattinson
Siddle
Lyon

People around the squad will be Burns, M.Marsh, Lynn, Maddinson and bowlers like Hazlewood, McDermott, Cutting, Coulter-Nile, Richardson, etc.

Vinny

Clarke will play until he is 50, kind of like Juddy.

Nige

Honestly can't see Watto's injuries letting him go too much longer.

However, there are several replacements.

Jay

Warner
Silk
Hughes
Clarke
Smith
Doolan
Wade
Starc
Pattinson
Cummins
Lyon

I'm interested to know why everyone is chucking Siddle out of their lineups. He is only 29 now, so will be 33 at the next home Ashes. He will definitely still be playing by then, he hasn't had too many injuries in his career. He's pace has dropped off recently as well so his body should be able to handle cricket until he is 34 or 35 I would think.

Or do people think that other talent will be ahead of him by then? Siddle has very good figures and I think will be a 300 wicket player and can be the backbone of an attack where you can build players like Cummins and Pattinson around him.

talent doesn't get you into the test team BB

How good is Starc? I havent seen a lot of him, but will he be good enough to get games with Bird/Cutting/Pattinson/Cummins? Hes left handed I think, so does that give him an advantage?

specky92

big tall left hander, swings it a bit more than johnson but not as quick, dominated in the one dayers against someone, forget who
