Hi guys, I'm really struggling with picking rookie or rookie priced defenders for my team, there are the obvious choices of McDonald and Kolodjiashnij, but other than that it appears to be slim pickings.  Maybe Clurey? Or Fuller?

I'd really like to hear some informed opinions in regards to this, what do you guys think?

Both KK and McDonald are pretty good chances of getting games, McDonald might be more of a sub risk however going into a team with greater depth. Fuller could be a good option, mature guy who knows his game pretty well, but will start behind a few so will have to have a good preseason. Cutler I am actually quite a fan of and I think he's got all the tools, wouldn't surprise me to see him get games as well.

They are the four most likely types at the moment but theres a long way to go before we can say any of this with any certainty

No one is looking likely atm.

Fuller (WB) is mature age but there are players ahead of him.

Cutler or Gardiner (BRI) could play.

Clurey (PA) is a chance but many ahead of him.

Ashby (ESS) is looking good but you would think he'd find it hard to break into their side early.

tbh I dont see them getting games. They'll have to get in front of Merrett, Clarke, Patfull, Maguire, Harwood, Adcock, Golby and someone else I probably missed, with Rich and Hanley occasionally playing down back.

One smokey to keep an eye on in NAB cup is Schade from Gold Coast as well,

Others have been mentioned but tbh as a Lions supporter and attending training can not see Cutler, Gardiner or McStay getting all games unless Golby or Clarke who are both training with rehab group do not come up 100%

Don't see a lot maybe Mcdonald think we got lucky last year could it be that we will have to start players like D Grimes , A Johnson , Buntine or heaven forbid Lonergan or Dawson on the bench .

There is quite a lack at this stage, but as already said, names always come up once some footy actually gets played. NAB challenge will tell us what we need to know. Jed Bews will debut this year, but won't be much iof a scorer, will Peter Yagmoor re enter the Pies line up now Shaw has left? Otherwise we will wait and see.

nobody knows at this stage before NAB Challenge

+1 it's all just speculation at this time of year. No one would really have a clue. There's always a few that bob up in the nab cup and some surprise selections round 1

Mr.Craig

KK, McDonald and Clurey would be the most likely for Round 1 although I have my doubts about Clurey.

Others who have varying chances of debuting during the year include Shaz, Giles, Ashby, Hunt, Battersby, Osborne and the Brisbane boys. Maybe Tippett too if North get desperate. There might be a surprise packet or two from the rest but no-one leaps out at me.

Clurey (PA) is a chance but many ahead of him.

Not many are ahead of him had a pretty good year in the SANFL last year i would have him ahead of Hombsch at this stage.

Maybe because he is at Collingwood or maybe because Victorians are stupid, not sure

Matt (The Shag) Scharenburg replaces Shaw brilliantly, how he wouldn't be considered for your teams is a mystery

Surely just as ready as Mr McD and more solid than KK sheesh

Didn't want too say but you will all find out before he rises in price anyway!!

He has sesamoiditis in both feet, is in the recovery group and has yet to participate in full training. That's why people aren't picking him. ;)

...and speaking from the perspective of a supporter, I'd expect that Seedsman will fill Shaw's role even if Scharenberg is ready come round one.
