Is he a lock this year or not?  Having an interrupted preseason again but in theory should be ok for round 1.

Personally, if i could fit him in as a M6 i would lock him in.  But as M5 seems a little light on to take the risk.

If he was a forward obviously he would go straight in!!

Will you start him and if so will it be M5 or M6 or other?

Ringo

I am comfortable starting Thomas at M5. He could be the Moloney of 2014 make cash and upgrade or even a keeper if warranted. IMO will be in most teams.

mpollock

When do prices change this year in SC?  I know they are like after round 2 in DT but haven't heard from a SC perspective?

Would much prefer to see a game or two from Thomas before locking him in.  Given his price is is a fairly easy trade to pull off early if needed.

At the moment starting Murphy at mid 5 , unless it changes prices will change round 3 so can always jump on Daisy then , this will give a couple of games to check him out , not convinced on that dodgy ankle just yet .

Yeah I have the same thinking Ringo. Moloney was a great cash cow and I ended up upgrading him to Priddis as a fallen premium last year.
Thomas should average between 100-105 which should see him reach around $500-550k which is plenty enough to upgrade to someone in the super premium bracket.

Holz

I think he will only average 90-95 but that's enough for me. He is a lot cheaper than mundy fyfe. So if he can go 100+ he will be one of the picks of the year.

Question really is m5 or m6

mpollock

If you go M6 then you basically commit to taking 2 or 3 of the returning cheap forwards to find the cash.

Depending on the preseason of blokes like Clarke, Hawkins, Fasola, Bock, Rohan, Hitchcock etc might make the decision for me i think.

Picked as my M6 ATM. Running:

B: McVeigh, Thompson, Simpson, Waters, Suckling
M: Pendles, Selwood, Rocky, Beams, Murphy, Thomas
R: NicNat, Sandi
F: Danger, Martin, Pavlich, Clark

So yet it certainly doesn't make my other lines week, i do have the 2 returning cheapies as you mention.

mpollock

Only three premium forwards and one is an injury prone and aging Pavlich.  Makes your forwards weak i reckon mate.

Tempted to go someone like Duncan as my M5 and Daisy as M6 but everytime i try a smokey like that it never works lol

No way on earth will he be as consistent as Murph and Gibbo, i'll bet my left nut he doesn't out score either :P

What price is he? Sounds like he is cheap if people are considering

Actually seriously considering Mr Gibbs of the Blue baggers

mpollock

This would sort of work:

B: McVeigh, Simpson, Birchall, Waters, Suckling, Fuller (Cutler, Flynn)
M: Ablett, Pendles, JPK, Murphy, D.Beams, D.Thomas, O'Rourke, Morabito (Halligan, Honeychurch)
R: Grundy, Sandi (Currie, Smith)
F: Danger, Martin, Parker, Zorko, Bock, Rohan (Markworth, Gartlett)

Problem is you are missing out on some serious value like:

- Various great midfield rookies as i needed to skimp on them to squeeze Thomas in as M6 and maintain 4 premiums in the forwards
- Needed to go Grundy as ruck 2 - although i don't mind to much as he is number 1 ruck at the pies
- Missed out on Bartell and S.Mitchell in defense who most teams will have (not sure how much that will hurt)
- Zorko as F4 is a risk
- Waters as D4 is a risk

Hard call overall really ...

This is my team with Thomas at M5.

B: McVeigh, Thompson, Mckenzie, Waters, Suckling, McDonald (Fuller, Langdon)
M: Ablett, Pendles, Rockliff, D.Beams, D.Thomas, C Beams, Ellis, Dunstan (O'Rourke, Garlett)
R: Nic Nat, Sandi (Lobb, Nankervis)
F: Danger, Roughead, Franklin, Pavlich, Clark, Kersten (Markworth, Taylor)

So really the difference between Thomas being a Mid 5 to Mid 6 between me and you mpollock is.

Thompson, Mckenzie, Rockliff, Nic Nat, Roughead, Franklin, Pavlich, Clark + higher end rookies who'll play games vs Simpson, Birchall, JPK, Murphy, Grundy, Martin, Parker, Zorko + rookies who will struggle to get good game time such as Flynn, Halligan, Honeychurch etc.

I also think when I look at the differences in teams that with the added Daisy in the mids at M6 you don't have the higher end premiums with players such as JPK, Murphy, Grundy, Parker, Zorko who I don't think will end up top 4-8 of their lines, whereas I can pretty much bet that six/seven of my eight will become locks and top 4-8 in their lines. (Clark and maybe Pavlich the exception).

Gibbs is a seagull. Won't go near him as a mid

mpollock

So we have:

- Thompson/McKenzie v Simpson/Birchall - about even or i might even be a little in front there
- Rocky v JJK - not a lot of difference i don't think - check the stats.  Also what role will Rocky play under the new coach?
- I have Murphy v Ellis - Clear win to me
- You have NicNac v Grundy - clear win to you (although Grundy does present excellent value)
- I have D.Martin/Parker/Zorko v Roughy/Pav/Franklin - Don't think there is a lot in that really although think Martin will explode and Pav will fade.  Buddy is an x factor so who knows.  Parker may or may not take the next step.  Zorko clearly a risk.  Will give it just to you but not by much
- Dunstan v Morabito - who knows really

So when i look at all that it seems like the main diff is an extra mid v having a premium ruck.  Most of the other comparisons are fairly arguable really.

The one area your team does have an advantage however is that i took a D8 and R4 who will never play.  Essentially making them floating donuts assuming they still have the rolling lockout this season.
