Every year we hear that Gazza will spend more time up forward.
Here's the article that says so

It happens every year so I wouldn't read much into it and it may increase his scoring as he'll kick more goals.

Ha ha you were spot on opened the back page of the Herald Sun and sure enough are greeted with heading - Gazza's career moves forward probably the same story in this morning's edition blah blah blah , and what will they do when they are getting belted in the midfield stick him straight back in there for the rest of the game , of course he will rest up forward like a lot of players with the interchange restrictions . Why would you have the best midfielder in the comp hanging around the forward line waiting for the ball to come to him   :)

eventually it will happen though, the reason

Omeara, Bennell, Lonergan, Martin, Prestia, Swallow

gaz will be the best small forward in the comp and with GCs soon to be amazing midfield they dont need them to save them anymore.

They Have Omeara for that.

Understand what you are saying Holz and that will happen just don't think it will be next year , maybe in some games when they are in control but when they are doing it tough we all know where Gaz will be , he is only 29 and in his prime and I'm sure that's where he will demand to be .

I agree, it will happen but probably not next year.

I have ablett in my team at the moment. I can see him playing abit more up front as they wont need him in there but will want him in there for most of the game.

Saying that I have not got him in my team at this point just having a bit of a struggle with cash with these outrageous rookie prices ha ha .

Lol I couldn't care less what young players they have to step up, you're still not gonna take the best player in the comp out of his position just for the sake of the younger players. I don't know why GC dont just say "you know what, stuff our kids, Gaz is the man and he can keep taking on the world in the midfield until he's not the best man for the job"
It's like they feel obligated to push him out because they are a new club and need to be seen to be evolving. There's plenty of room for the rest to develop around Gaz without trying to force him to the forward line. It shouldn't happen yet and It won't happen yet. He's still at the peak of his game

Very interesting topic this one. Ofcourse he will still stream through the middle more often than not. But my main question atm is Pendlebury vs Ablett, currently on Gaz but I don't think we'll see him bust out 130+ like he has, while many are saying Pendles will average the most out of all players. It's an intriguing one to ponder.

Locinator

Don't read anything into it. This man is the best player in the AFL. Last year he won the brownlow and the MVP. Of course the Suns want to develop their kids but lets be realistic, who in the right mind would move the best player in Australia, out of his best position. Its basically Guy McKenna asking for the sack.

shorty3264

Ofcourse mate, I totally agree. All I'm thinking about is who be number 1 and 2, Ablett > Pendles or vice versa. And simply a matter of will he average 135 or 125...

_wato

I honestly think Pendlebury might not pip him, maybe not this year, which we say every year, haha.

Ablett will definitely average upward of 130, I don't think he'll be good enough for 140 but not bad enough for 125.
He averaged 139 last year apart from that one month of footy where he seemed injured or out of it, not sure the reason for those scores.

Pendlebury has a reasonably tough draw, and I think we may see even more improvement from players on the cusp of premium --> super premium such as Sidebottom and players such as Taylor Adams/Seedsman will dramatically improve their averages.

Ablett may be king again, but it'll be very very close. Somehow though I can live without Ablett but not Pendlebury. I feel safer with him for some reason. It's so tough.
