Master Q

Yeah. Especially how 1/2 bowlers in the BBL are being labeled All-Rounders.

#Ferg
Klinger and Hughes are both better than Ferg :P
Hughes better get on the South Africa plane, how on earth can we be top of the shield table but none of our players are good enough? :o

because Shield cricket doesn't determine test selection T20 does

Here are the first-class stats for three batsman fighting to be in the side for South Africa:

Player a: 25 years old, 106 first class matches, 8381 first class runs at an average of 45.54. Has 24 first class tons, 44 fifties and a 204. Strike rate of 57.30

Player b: 31 years old, 103 first class matches, 6247 first class runs at an average of 37.63. Has 14 first class tons, 31 fifties and a high score of 160. Strike rate of 55.03

Player c: 28 years old, 53 first class matches, 3375 first class runs at an average of 37.92. Has 6 first class tons, 18 fifties and a high score of 161. Striker rate of 49.67

Which would you prefer?

Somewhat agree, how Maxwell ever played a test match is beyond me.

Well those 3 players are Hughes, Bailey and Doolan.

Hughes obviously has the best record of the 3 and is the form batsman, so deserves a spot. Doolan should also tour and Bailey probably will as well, but Hughes should start.

Also here is another interesting stat that does support the claim that we have the best bowling attack in the world. (Personally I think South Africa still has the edge over us just, but this upcoming series will decide it).

This series was the first time in a 5-match Ashes series that we took all 100 English wickets out of a possible 100

Jay

Just take the fun out of it, BB :P Happy someone else agrees with me though!

Dropping Bailey for an all-rounder is pointless. Like you said, its not the bowling that needs strengthening... We are elite in that area. Its the batting that is still below par imo.

I like what tbag said... I do not want Bailey coming in when we're 4-50 against South Africa! He has shown no grit and only made his little bit of runs when the game wasn't exactly up for grabs...

Hughes has test match experience and was awesome in South Africa last time!

Do you see Doolan or Hughes at 3 with Watto batting down or would you bring whoever is selcted in at 5 after Clark but ahead of Smith.

Personally as I have said earlier Watson does his best work at 3. Ideal Player to follow Warner

BB67th

Watson should stay at 3 for now. There is no ready made replacement I feel, Doolan doesn't have the record to play tests unless we really need him.

I feel Hughes should get an opportunity at 5 or 6. Remember that he played the first Ashes test in England down the order and scored a good 80 odd with Ashton Agar at the other end. Next match he gets moved back up to 4, fails a couple of times and gets dropped. I feel they should give him a run in the lower order where he won't be facing the new ball all the time and nicking off.

Hughes at 3 and Doolan at 6

Master Q

I haven't properly watched Hughes play for a while...

Has improved on his technique? I mean the amount of times he'd get caught in the slips or behind square leg was a joke. Bolwers are smart and they target Batsmen's weaknesses.

He definitely deserves to play in our next test.

Mailman the 2nd

Hughes really should've been playing day 1 in Brisbane, although I'm not complaining given the result.

Given the lack of success from Watson and Bailey I'd think (hope) that he'd be a shoe-in to the squad in SA

Sad thing is, that is his scoring range predominately as well. Loves a late cut. Tends to get caught out at the higher level with better bowlers moving the ball more. Not sure he would be up to it, but he deserves another crack because he is the best we have in the sheild comp. Bailey has had enough chances now. 2 40s in 8 bats doesnt cut it.

JBs-Hawks

Hughes shouldnt have been dropped in England! He learns with every knock as the fault with his getting caught in the slips/gully is shot selection. He is a class above everyone in shield, give him a prolonged stay in the side!
