Does anyone know the likelyhood of selected players being withdrawn in Round 1 compared to other rounds? Not sure if Beams was named round 1 2013 before withdrawn.

Toying with idea of filling bench with the dirties cheapest players and therefore playing with no emergencies to maximise premiums on field given we can reset the whole team for round 2.

Risky I know but surely late outs are less common for round 1.

Worst case I get a doughnut and best case I start with a massive score for round 1.

Thoughts?

Sweetness

I think that will be a very common strategy come Round 1.
That's what I'll be doing anyway

Mr.Craig

I think it's worth the 40k to at least have a 135k selected player on the mid and forward bench. Rucks and backs I might risk it.

Another strategy is to pick solely based on fixtures and make the most of the R1 cash rise. If you invest your 10mill and end up with a team worth 11-12mill for R2, you'll have a long-term advantage over the comp. People think that they will be able to "reset" their team for R2 but they won't. Your original investment in R1 will be affected.
So I'm not going to go for a "most points" strategy. $$$ for me  8)

Sorry, I'm not quite following you Stew. ??? The prices change at the end of Round 2 so there's no harm in chasing points Round 1 and then adjusting your team prior to Round 2 in order to optimise cash generation.

Peter

Correct - as per Prospectus (after Round 2, not before Round 2)

The problem is you actually face a headache if you get it right. Say Voldt does have a blinder and the player you where planning on having round 2 has a shocker round 1, it would be hard for me anyhow to make the change. Plus there's always the risk your "main team" will outscore your super round 1 score team anyhow.

Rather than have a 'Round 1' side I am going to use the money saved from selecting the cheapest players for my bench on upgrading 2 or 3 of my onfield rookies/midpricers

Ditto will be doing the same and as you say will be the popular way to go I think.

Master Q

I also thought prices changed straight after Round 1. Obviously not.

Very interesting strategy. What about loading up on players with easy games Round 1?

Shame Joey is suspended  :(

What i'll be trying to do.  ;D

Mr.Craig

Last time out against their first round opponents my team scored 2292 (including double points for Captain) so hopefully I'm on to a winner. Would be happy if I just got 2000.

Master Q

I have the perfect team. Don't want to fiddle with it  :(

Planning my "real" team for round 2.

For round 1, it will be a purpose built team based on likely AFL results. Benches to be as thin as possible. I think the first round is split, too, and I might leave bench cover for the second half with more premos from the first.

There are definitely going to be some interesting teams come the first bounce of Round 1. Just a pity its not a H2H round - could be some epic matchups between pretty different looking teams.
Personally, I've primarily looked for players with great recent records against the R1 opponents and filled all bench spots with basement priced rookies. For instance, my current 22 for Classic is:

Def: S.Mitchell N.Malceski G.Birchall J.Grimes M.Fuller J.Laidler ( S.Siggins J.Tippett )
Mid: B.Stanton K.Jack J.Watson R.O'Keefe T.Cotchin D.Beams M.Murphy D.Tyson ( J.Prudden M.Hallahan )
Ruc: P.Ryder A.Sandilands ( D.Currie F.Thurlow )
Fwd: P.Dangerfield D.Martin J.Roughead P.Chapman J.Caddy G.Rohan ( L.Reynolds S.Kersten )
