Hi guys,

Been playing around with this idea, because I'm still concerned about the unevenness in the comp. Just floating an idea, and thought I'd give it a whirl...

WXV Divisions (based on positions after finals last year)

GROUP A:
Sao Paulo, Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Berlin, Moscow, Cairo

GROUP B:
Cape Town, Toronto, Dublin, London, New York, Seoul

GROUP C:
PNL, Tokyo, New Delhi, Pacific, Beijing, Wellington

17 Rounds

Group A: Plays each other home & away (10 matches) + each team in Group B (at home, 6 matches) + a bye

Group B: Plays each other home OR away (5 matches), each team in Group A (away, 6 matches), each team in Group C (home, 6 matches)

Group C: Plays each other home & away (10 matches) + each team in Group B (away, 6 matches) + a bye

Finals:

The Premiership (Top 6 after finals make Group A in 2015)

Qualifying Finals
Group A 1st v Group A 4th
Group A 2nd v Group A 3rd
Elimination Finals
Group A 5th v Group B 2nd
Group A 6th v Group B 1st

Group B Qualifiers (Top 4 after finals make Group B in 2015 + 7th and 8th from Premiership Finals)

Qualifying Finals
Group B 3rd v Group B 6th
Group B 4th v Group B 5th

Elimination Finals
Group C 1st v Group C 4th
Group C 2nd v Group C 3rd

Spoon Play Off
Group C 5th v Group C 6th

Basically 12 teams have a shot at the Premiership this year (Group A and Group B... Honestly, no team in Group C are a shot anyway this year). We will have more even matches, and adds a 'relegation' feel to the competition.

What do people think?

Any team could have a few surprise bolters and lift them. Maybe every premo player in the comp gets injured and Wellington wins.

That's fair... can tweak the finals a bit so the top point scorers are guaranteed to make the Premiership finals?

Yeah not sure if I like it or not. You say none of the bottom 6 have a chance, but Dublin did go from wooden spoon to finishing 9th, missing out on finals by percentage where they would have done some damage!

Plus PNL in the bottom group seems wrong. Yes they don't win many, but they always seem to score highly and just get unlucky...

This doesn't really make teams stronger or more even.

It's like covering imperfections with makeup, might look pretty for a while but they're still there.

Might as well just remove most of the teams and make it a 6 team comp. Strongly dislike.

If for example this system was in the AFL, West Coast Eagles would have been in an elimination final and Port Adelaide no chance to play finals at all.

Then there is me, 16th to 4th...

I sort of do like how every team has a chance. Some team from bottom 4 could fluke to eighth and win the premiership! There are no certainties in sport.

Yeah, the gut says no on this one.

There are a couple of things I do not like about it Oss maybe a misintepretation

Do not like the idea of Groups B & C playing the teams from the group above them away. Should be worked as three away and three home for all.

Have to think on it a little more in relation to fairness.

Do not how it would work but would probably like to see each Group play through to finals and then the 2 finalists play the lowest teams in a promotion relegation.  That way any of 4 teams in Group C or B can get promoted as oppossed to the 2 in your draft.

Still not sure whether in favour or not overall though.

I think what makes this hard is how much teams can move over the offseason.

A team like Dublin is the perfect example. I feel that im easily in the Category A level.

If im in Category B than wont it actually make it harder for me to win the cup, even though I actually could take out a top 4 postion fairly easy in the normal comp.

We just can't buy any luck :P.

As others have said, there can easily be bolters like Berlin and Dublin who rose quite a lot this season and could potentially push for that premiership. Given the top end is stacked, can't rule out fairy tale runs by teams that can cause upsets. Against the divisions as points the others made!

Rightio, so the main feedback is we'd still like all 18 teams to have a chance any given year?

How about these are the teams that make the Finals?

The top 4 from Group A

The top 2 from the Group A v Group B ladder

The top 2 from the Group B v Group C ladder

If any overlap, we go with 5th in Group A, 6th in Group A, 1st in Group B, 2nd in Group B.... Every team has a chance.

If any teams are truly good enough (Dublin/PNL etc), they would make it this way. In some ways, could make it easier to Dublin to make the top 4 the top of Group A/B guaranteed to make the qualifying finals...

My concern is that the bottom teams will never become competitive if the coaches of those teams lose interest, or feel they can never be competitive. This way each team has a better chance of winning/being competitive each week.

We have imperfections, for sure, trying to make it fun for all.

I don't mind it...  :P

That's why you're my favourite, 20 premiership points for you.

ossie85

And the groups for the next year purely decided on total points scored? (with the exception of the premier & runner-up making group A anyway)....

Nails

How about Group 1

Consists of 18 teams

Top 8 teams make finals.
