Ok, so Birch has just got a contract extension.

I was thinking they would have probably offered him a fair bit - it got me thinking - is he in the top 5 MVP at the reigning premier?

Who do you think is the top 5 MVPlayers now that Franks has left

Its really tough as they are such a team based performance side - there is no standout gun - everyone pulls together as a team and does their bit

What also makes it hard is that players are coached to do the 1%ers, fill holes, block, sacrifice games, sheppherds etc etc. This stuff is not seen by most fans - especially outsiders who bag players such as Sizzle Rioli for not doing anything

I watched Sizzle closely in 2013 because my mates were bagging him. The guy was doing massive amounts of pressure / tackles / chasedowns / intercepts - the stuff that no one takes notice of - acts that usually resulted in a turnover a few seconds later - but the commentators would have not even mentioned his name as they are "ball watching". Burgoyne is another who is very big in this role.

There are so many players that bring a lot to the game for the team

So who is top 5 MVP at Hawthorn post Franks?

IMO....

1) Hodge
2) Mitchell
3) Ruffnuts
4) Birchall
5) Hale

Yes I will get flamed..but thats how I see it...Im interested for other Hawks fans input

Appologies to Sizzle, Lake, Burgoyne & Gibson...toss a coin between them for #6

Is your top 5 in order? If so I would seriously have Roughy number 1.

me too tbh. I mean, it depends... if by post franklin, you mean this year, then you can make an argument for your rankings, even if personally I think roughy is probably your most key player. If however you include past this year, I'd say rougheads age compared to mitchell/ hodge puts him clearly ahead.

hey....WTF happened to all my boo's?

I worked hard to earn them ones?

This is worse than WoW....do we have to spend hours racking them up again next season?

Probs agree with Ruffnuts number 1 now - I tried to imagine the Hawks without Franklin or Roughead in a match....jesus....not good...Hawks have been very lucky to have Franklin or Roughead playing on game day throughout Franklins time at Hawthorn

Noz

Roughy is the most important player in the AFL to their team structure.

He should be payed the most

1. roughy, can play any position at a high level, will be the main go to man inside 50 for the nex 5 years.
2. Mitchell, still hawthorns best mid and now a great creator off half back to
3. Gibson, chops the other defenders out so much, a lot of hawthorns defense would get ministered if not for him coming 3rd man up.
4. Hodge, leads the way. Heart and soul of the club and can play any role.
5. Sewell, so under rated. Does all of the dirty work and is at the bottom of every pack feeding it out to everyone else

JBs-Hawks

MVP

Roughy
Mitchell
Hodge
Birch
Lake/Gibbo

Then Burgers, Mcevoy, Smith, Cyril

Mr.Craig

Franklin wasn't top 5 this year anyway.

Mitchell
Roughead
Gibson
Hodge
Gunston

Vinny

Yeah agree with Sewell, very underated and often unfairly maligned

No love for Hale? When the game is in the balance he often pops up with a goal or 2. A very consistant team member
