Verdict: Looking at his scores when in a winning team has me seriously considering him for next year. Hawthorn should have no trouble winning games next year and Ben should have a decent ruck partner whether it's Hale, Grimley or Ceglar so he shouldn't run out of steam like he seemed to do at the end of this season. In my opinion he's the best value that isn't injury prone and should be seriously considered.

Started with Goldy and McEvoy last year and thought it was a master stroke early but then the massive drop off.
After watching him closely all year his problem is that he just doesn't win enough hit outs. Might be a surprise to some but he loses the hitout count nearly every week

That is really surprising considering how much he is.

Thanks Specky

i think he should do better playing in a winning team again i'll be watching him in the NAB Challenge he also might be motivated after joining a new club

JBs-Hawks

His scores dropped off when Hickey got more gametime limiting his time in the middle.

That was a major factor but as quinny88 said... He gets smashed in hitouts and that hurts.

Bill Manspeaker

yep. terrible tap ruckman. loves dropping back taking intercept marks though, very good pair of hands

Ricochet

Will be interesting to see how Hawks use him. Saints sat him a kick behind the ball and he scored a majority of his points from there. As others have stated, his ruckwork isn't actually that great

TeeJay

Ruckman can literally get away with doing bugger all if they can rack up 40+ hitouts a game. Sandi has 5 possessions and scores a big ton for this very reason. That's why I always like to go for Ruckman that win hitouts. Relying on a guy to take a bunch of contested marks or kick goals is to much of a roller coaster. When you know they are gonna dominate the hitouts 9/10 times, you're already on your way to a big score every week

Dayze

Was good to me two years ago.
But a ruckman that can't ruck.
Why not just play him as a key position player?
Not the stupidest idea
If buddy is a wait and see than this guy is an even bigger wait and see...

Bill Manspeaker

the problem with that Dayze is he's not very fast.. he's slow and would be very easy to gain a lead on. he's also not much use up forward..

Has a great pair of hands but he's a bit lumbering for a key position. He may become a good tap Ruckman. There's an art to it. He has the size so it's just a matter of getting the timing etc right. Not sure exactly what issues he has but he's still pretty young so not passed being taught. The big monkey might teach him a thing or 2 ;)

Jroo

Doesn't win enough hit outs for a ruckman, but he's okay around the ground which is surprising.
Don't think I'll start with him.
