New Years Team - Version 2014

DEF: J. McVeigh, S. Mitchell, K. Simpson, D. Swallow, M. Suckling, L. McDonald (D. Byrne-Jones, M. Fuller)
MID: S. Pendlebury, J. Watson, T. Rockliff, D. Beams, D. Thomas, D. Tyson, C. Beams, X. Ellis (L. Dunstan, J. O'Rourke)
RUC: M. Lobbe, A. Sandilands (D. Currie, T. Derickx)
FWD: P. Dangerfield, D. Martin, D. Zorko, J. Caddy, S. Higgins, A. Fasolo (S. Kersten, D. Garlett)

So hard to get the team you want with price cap set by SC this year but we all have to live with it,

I know you will laugh at Higgins but he can easily be downgraded if need be to Karnezis if he plays, Hogan of he shows something in the pre-season. Basically only need 5 solid games from Higgins and get a nice price rise and upgrade to a performing forward,

Sticking with my prediction that Lobbe will be the Minson of 2014 and that is why I have him No 1 Ruck. Sandi is a risk i know but also just need a couple of solid games from him to increase in price and upgrade should he get injured.

Swallow entering 4th year when most tend to break out so is a selection in defence.

Zorko and Caddy are also my picks to improve on last year so they are my forward selections.

Final rookie listing will be based on pre season form. This may mean Martin may come in if he shows form but another difference between him and JOM was that there was a weakness in the Suns midfield which he slotted into. With JOM now cemented in there with Bennell, Prestia, Gazz, Swallow etc same opportunity may not be there for martin although he will play.  Just another observation, (McKenna in an interview has said why would i play the best midfielder forward an indication Gazz will be kept in midfield).

Bye structure is 11/10/9 which I am comfortable with,

Def - Love the swallow pick, been in and out of my side for a while now.
can he take the next step?? gain that extra 10-15 points?? if so, bargain.

Mid - not sold on C Beams yet, we'll just see how often he plays. Ellis is in the same boat.

R - Love the Lobbe pick, can he keep 2nd half year form?? if so could be the new Minnow.

fwd - like the caddy pick, not sold on zorko, and dont trust Missy.

overall - i like the setup. minimal rookie choices in the DEF/FWD so going with only 1 on the field is a great idea.

good luck

Nice team Ringo. A few observations though:

Defence is solid. As mentioned, D Swallow is a breakout contender for sure. I'm not a fan myself but can see why many are. You might have to spend a little extra on the rookies in defence though as Byrne-Jones isn't a likely round 1 starter whereas the more expensive KK is very likely to play and should score well.

Mids look good too. I went with no Ablett to start with last year and I shudder to think where I may have finished overall if I had started with him. I won't be making the same mistake again. I would think about downgrading one of Tyson, Beams or Ellis to bring in KK in your defence too.

I like the Lobbe pick and have him in my side too. Sandi is just too damn risky in my opinion. Trades are like gold and I can guarantee that you will need to burn one if you decide to start with Sandi.

Forwards look a little weak to me. Only two guys there that I think could average 100 or above. Higgins WILL get injured at some stage so I don't think he is worth having in your side. Maybe downgrade him to a cheap rookie, maybe JKH? Then spend the extra cash upgrading Caddy or Zorko to a premium forward.

D: no faults from me, I like it. Swallow is the question mark but could be a great pick.

M: leave Ablett out at your own peril. Can see the temptation in cash savings to start without him though.

R: sandi picks himself at that price, bens right that you will likely need to trade him out but he only needs to make it to round 10.

F: reason behind the zorko pick? If he plays more mid he will score 100+ So maybe you know something we don't ;)

Nice team, rookies obviously subject to change. Hopefully some cheaper options pop up throughout nab challenge

Ringo

Just on Zorko Quinny - Has added pace and muscle tone to his frame. Leppas game plan will suit Zorko and with Brown playing close to goal square this year opportunity exists for Zorko as well.

Best team I've seen you put up this year, Particularly like Swallow, Lobbe, Zorko, Higgins choices.
My only reserve is the Gazza not being there, and that is a matter that most coaches are finding difficulty in deciding.
If I rated teams this one would be a 9 point something. Cheers and best of luck Sir Ringo.  ;)

Your updated Looks great as each line has depth and it has the unique picks of Caddy & Zorko even Swallow who i agree will have a Breakout year is a great pick in Defence
Mids: Only can say that Martin should be in the team instead of one of Beams or Ellis.Rest of the midfield is Excellent
Rucks:Both Good Picks
FWDS: Higgins is the only Concern. If he stays injury free he will make you plenty of cash.

Overall this team looks great & well balanced give it a 9/10

Ringo

Higgins is not set in stone Have the luxury of dropping him to Clark if Clark shows better form. Just looked up some stats on Clark and for the 6 games prior to his injury in 2012 was averaging 99 which included tons against Geelong, Collingwood and Hawthorn so if he gets back to that form will be gold.
Fasolo may become Lennon if the reports about his preseason prove true in the preseason games. This move will give me $50k cash to play around with other rookies,

Its shaping up well Ringo, defence looks strong, No Ablett in the midfield? First guy I pick every year tbh, absolute champion and a safe captain pick most weeks.

Forward line seems a bit risky too, Zorko, Caddy, Higgins and Fasolo all have a few question marks over them, id prefer Buddy, Tom Mitchell or Wingard and at the lower end Clark and Hogan.

Best of luck and could you have a look at my new team if you get the chance?

Cheers for giving my team a rate ringo!

DEF: Very good (because its similar to mine haha), only difference is ive got hanley over simpson and different rookies, how do you reckon hanley will cope with the tag and any clue how his been training? im still tossing up between him and simpson???
MID: Strong mate and very good rookie picks, all should score well and good structure with beams and Thomas as well.
RUCK: Same rucks as me, looks good mate, lobbe will improve lots I think and sandi will make cash.
FWD: First two are locks, zorko I think will go back to his 2012 form, youd know best haha, caddy could have a breakout year and despite everyones hatred towards him I reckon Higgins will average very good for his price if he plays, fas im not so sure about, maybe downgrade him to give you some extra cash.

Overall it is a very good team ringo, strong defence and mids, and rucks will hopefully be good. Forwards you have the risk of zorko and caddy but I reckon both will pay off, good team mate, 8.5/10

Hey ringo. Is your team still same ? Just like to see how it's going?

Ringo

Have not put an update up for a while so thought I would post this team with both GAJ and Pendles in it. Think it is quite strong with a few calculated risks.  Rookies will be decided for Round 1 as i have quite a few with Round 8 bye so that may change, Do not mind this structure either,

Higgins may become Clark. Karnezis or Bock depending on pre-season and being named,

DEF: J. McVeigh, S. Mitchell, K. Simpson, D. Swallow, R. Schoenmakers, L. McDonald (D. Byrne-Jones, M. Fuller)
MID: G. Ablett jnr, S. Pendlebury, T. Rockliff, D. Beams, D. Thomas, V. Michie, X. Ellis, P. Cripps (L. Dunstan, N. Gordon)
RUC: M. Lobbe, A. Sandilands (D. Currie, F. Thurlow)
FWD: P. Dangerfield, D. Martin, J. Gunston, D. Zorko, S. Higgins, S. Kersten (D. Garlett, J. Kennedy-Harris)
CASH LEFT: $6,900

Solid team Ringo Higgins and all the replacements are doubtful for round 1 maybe you could use Fasolo if fit and named or Rohan who is having very good preseason

Ringo

Thanks Shaker also forgot to mention Clark as well. Either way I will be looking for a a prplayer with experience to fill F5,
