MMurphy is the best value of all midfielders this year
He was pretty good value this time last year too. Glad I didn't pick him then. What will change? Really tempted but the tag ,the tag!
Tag wasn't the issue this year, injury and an unsettled team were.

2009: 112ave
2010: 111
2011: 118
2012: 112
2013: 92

Yes Beams is also up there. Biggest locks of 2014 for me

Aswell as those two things, tags were an issue too. Murphy is a gun but as the tag has moved from Judd to Murphy, his scoring has declined a little. He will be better next year no doubt, but I can't fit him as much as I love him. :(

Dayze

Murphy will improve no doubt about it. But I still believe he will average 100-105. Which isn't ideal when choosing him over a danger, Jobe or rocky who I believe could average 120+.
Vinny said it, that tag has affected him in the past, and until we see signs of him breaking that tag, most of us won't risk starting him in our midfield. With most midfield prems there is very little risk.
Unfortunately Murphy had all those premium years without any attention. Gut running and work rate is the only way to burn the tag. Sitting in the forward line is how mick sees Murphy having an impact when tagged and that is not going to improve his average.
Murphy mite get back to 110+ which if it happens will be a great decision by u Ricco... But I have too many doubts to think he will.

Vinny

Yeah very true Dayze, but I actually believe Carlton getting back to their best will require Murphy to step up.

Just going off FF here
RD3 Tagged by Hunt = 114SC
RD4 Tagged by SSelwood = 98SC
RD5 Tagged by Wright = 99SC
RD7 Tagged by Geary = 57SC **Injured in Quarter 1
RD9 Tagged by Raines = 105SC
RD10 Tagged by Shiel = 73SC
RD11 Tagged by Hocking = 118SC
RD16 Tagged by Jones = 75SC **Injured in Quarter 2
RD19 Tagged by Crowley = 51SC
RD20 Tagged by Wallis = 92SC
RD21 Tagged by Conca = 102SC
RD22 Tagged by Hocking = 98SC
RD23 Tagged by Cornes = 130SC

These are all the regular season games this year where he was tagged. Can't really take much from the games he was injured so early in. So apart from the gun taggers like Crowley and GWS who always tag well, he does ok against them imo

aaaaand that's the sound of me locking him in,  ;D

Vinny

Haha wow! That has just changed my view on him a fair bit in terms of fantasy. Good stuff Rico! Hmmmmm....so tempting especially with the non-round 8 bye! :P

I consider anything under 110 a fail for a premium mid so thats only 3 pass scores from 13 games. If people think it's respectable to get 90s with a tag then go for it but all of the best mids get tagged every week. Gotta be much better than that. It's not just his sc scores than suggest he doesn't cope well, you can see it watching the games and the coach himself said it. Won't go near him until he breaks the tag. And that doesn't mean 90s

Vinny

It's the fact that he is very good value TJay, even if he pumps out 90-105 scores, his price will rocket in no time. If you aren't satisfied, upgrade him to a premium at that point. I really wanna start him but don't know if I will. Now it is down to Watson/Ablett/Murphy.

His price won't rocket scoring just 90-105 though? It would be a very slow climb.
And surely you wouldn't pick up a guy like this without the faith  and intention in him becoming a keeper.

Sounds like a big headache to me

Dayze

Agreed. If u guys are impressed by those scores u are easily pleased
What those scores scream is mediocre.
Our starting midfield prems are the backbone of our squad.
I can see the appeal of the fella, but u r playing with fire.
Any other line smurph would b lock and loaded. Not the midfield. Time will tell. U boys are all clever fantasy players, but ur taking an unnessecary risk.
Don't let the byes affect u too much...

Ricochet

So he goes 100-105 against full blown tags, so what happens in the other 10 games where he isn't heavily tagged?  Don't forget his average this year is injury affected, in an unsettled team with players being trialed all over the place, under a new game plan, under a new coach, without the addition of another big bodied midfielder. Carlton will improve heaps next year and Marc will bounce back. Him getting a full tag most games isn't a new thing, he's been getting the #1 tag for a couple of years now. And he has gone 110+ in the previous 4 years to this year
