THE SYDNEY Swans have handed Tom Derickx a lifeline, signing the former Richmond ruckman as a delisted free agent.

I must say I wasn't expecting that, good to see though. The Swans need the depth after a few players departed.

He's no Mitch Morton.

Inb4 no games.

Yeah I would be surprised if he played.
He is okay just in case anything happens though.
I still won't forgive him for dropping the mark against Gold Coast and costing us the game  :P :P

Ricochet

Was actually a very good player over here in the WAFL. Haven't seen much of him since but wouldn't be surprised if he did actually get games

All we really needed was some insurance. Hopefully this means we wont waste #15 on Lobb or another ruckman.

Yeah you probably wouldn't pick Lobb now would you?
Someone like Zac Jones should be available at that pick.

Interesting choice. Hopefully thats all the rucks the Swans pick up and need this year

Mailman the 2nd

He looks fine to me, him + Pykey and Tippett should easily be enough for the year.

As you said SR I'd much rather take some of the up and coming midfielders with our first 2 picks than take a gamble with a ruckman

Ricochet

Lobb will probably go to GWS now

Don't they have 4 picks before we get to our 2nd? If so I'd say he's definitely headed to GWS

They can have him. I like the Swans ruck recruit strategy that has worked for the last decade. Grab and develop a rookie with late/rookie picks but find your main ruck via trade/draft.

You know what you are getting and the track record cannot be argued with.
Ball
Spida (was a year too late - which meant a fail)

While developing Pyke via rookie. The others havent come on as hoped. (Fingers crossed for Sam)

The big yank unit also looks the goods too if he can do a Pyke we would be pretty happy!

So that is 4 ruckmen with Tippett and LRT to play back up if worst case came round.

Would be great to see the big yank and the canuck out there for the bloods

Thoughts on Reid doing some time in the ruck this year?? I have suggested in the player profile that he may have some time in the ruck as well

100% dont like it. Hasnt got the body IMO and more likely to be injured. I still think they should try and work him into the fwd line.

Ringo

Just a query to you Swan supporters where does that leave Naismith in the pecking order.  He completley out rucked Longer in the NEAFL grand final when they went head to head and we know how Longer is viewed. just an observation.

Grazz

Don't see him playing much, I think this is an insurance policy should disaster strike Sydney's main ruck stocks.
