Thoughts
The All-Australian full back had a sensational season, averaging 98 SC points with his reading of the play, Brian Lake style, being his greatest asset. Thompson bumped his SuperCoach average up by 11 PPG in 2013 and was one of the most prolific defenders. He was a huge beneficiary of Lachie Hansen's rise to form in defence, taking some of the pressure off Thompson and Nathan Grima, allowing Thompson to play with a little more freedom. As a general rule in SuperCoach you steer clear of full-backs, but Thompson is giving us something to think about, more so with North Melbourne on the rapid improve. While he returned just the seven centuries, it was his consistency that makes him a valuable selection. He scored 80+ in 15 of his 19 games in 2013, with the ability to rack up huge numbers, as he did against the Lions in round 4, racking up 25 disposals (22 effective), 10 marks, six rebound 50s tallying up to an impressive 164 SC points. Also, Thompson is an Etihad Stadium specialist, thriving under the roof, in his 11 matches at Docklands he averaged 108.7 SC points, highlighting his capabilities.

Verdict
While many will steer clear of Thompson due to his negating role, he could prove to be a brilliant POD if he can produce another season like 2013. Another point to think about is his reliability, in recent years we have seen defenders like Shaw, Birchall, Hurn, Hartlett, Hanley, all get shut down by the offensive tag, this is not a worry for Thompson.

champion data absolutely loves this bloke or whoever does the scores often gets like 80 in dt but 120 in SC seriously one to consider don't have to worry about him being tagged either and he scores well while doing his negating roles

btw that 66 vs Freo was in the pouring rain it was wet as

that 164 score unfortunately has driven his price up a bit if was more like 450k i'd prob lock him in

I personally don't like my fantasy defenders to b accountable. But good point on the tag.
Zero chance of a player ever being sent to him.
Has improved incredibly over the last two seasons
U did call him early last year killbluff.
Another great write up shorty.
On the watchlist but unlikely to make the final cut.

haha yeah i remember  ;D

also called on Libba early about half way through the year thread is in the coaches forum somewhere now heaps are putting him in there team next year ::)

Nige

Yeah, this guy seems to be pretty reliable. Doesn't seem to get too much love either fantasy wise compared to some other names. Definitely a guy to look at! I have him in my BXVs (Sportal scoring) team, he's solid.

And yeah, another good write-up shorty.

Cheers Dayze and Nigey! :)

Ah ok, interesting to note then KB yeh. He doesn't get much love at all from many Supercoach's.

Forget Hanley or Shaw, this man is a LOCK. Won't be picked up by many SC'ers next year, pretty well priced and has a verrrrry soft draw.

Expecting big things next year. Only plays 9 top 8 teams from this year next year with two games against Melbourne, Adelaide, WB and Brisbane. Plays Geelong twice but that's it with only one game against the rest of the top 8 teams.

Along with that average of 108.7 at Etihad, his first three games next year are there so expecting a pretty good start from him.

Plays as North's loose defender a bit and I can't see that changing. Damaging from full back and can break lines.

100-105 ppg from me, but I'm expecting big things.

I have him as my D1 at the moment.

round 8 bye is very valuable down back with very few other options. He will likely finish inside the top 8 backs so thats enough to keep him all year.

loves a intercept mark and fortuntely so does champion data.

I think the roos backline is pretty solid and he should keep his role. He is very damaging but you cant really tag him as he goes to their key forward (who are the least accountable players in the game). A majority of the forward taggers if not all are small guys and he will monster them.

the best way to stop him scoring is for the ball to go knowehere inside the defensive 50. my only worry is with north a top 4 team will the ball be near him enough. He  is the full back. This last point is my only worry and it may cause me to trade him out during the preseason.

wow norths fixture is so easy this yr
GWS - Western Bulldogs - Adelaide - Melbourne in supercoach finals. got to lock him in

Jroo

Only one of a few key defenders you should consider in SuperCoach. Don't know if I'll pick him though, as like all KPP, he is likely to have some bad scores.

he is a full back if north pump those squads he wont get much ball.

Nice write up, wasn't considering until now. Has me thinking if i can squeeze him in at D2.
Goes against my rule of picking KPD's though :-\

Bit of a premature call? Lol
