Case closed.
That's a very good angle. Shows Sio approaching Samaras and making contact only with the man and not the ball. Therefore the foul was called.

It certainly was not a "shocking decision that should be overturned" as some people are suggesting. line ball? yes. shocking? no.

It's probably one of the better penalties this tournament.

Hmm interesting

To be honest though the play before that Ivory Coast really should of converted with the 4 on 2 opportunity.

PowerBug

How they didn't score that idk.

Well PB you cannot tell if there is contact on that still picture, looking at that video it looks like there was no contact.

But that other angle shows pretty clearly that it was a penalty IMO, good call for me.

MTTY

Definitely a penalty from that angle

Um what? You can clearly see his leg gets caught in Sio's leg before he then trips over himself. The reason he trips over himself is because his leg gets caught first. Don't know how you can say it doesn't look like there was contact. You don't need that other angle to see the contact. All the other angle shows is Sio moving forwards into it causing the contact, whereas the original angle you can't tell if he is moving towards him or not.

Jukes

The thigh-tap didn't really impede him at all though, it was the kicking-the-ground bit that made him go to ground.

But as I remember somebody saying, if they went back and corrected every refereeing mistake the round of 16 would have about 10 different teams.

CrowsFan

Yeah Jukes the kicking the ground was what made him fall, but I'm willing to bet he wouldn't have kicked the ground if he didn't get the thigh tap first

Whoops, sorry I meant to say foul not contact.

EDIT: Sorry for making you type that paragraph. :P

I felt that the Ivory Coast deserved to lose after the keeper missed that penalty save. Shocking keeping.

FIFA should step in and change the outcome of the Greece/Ivory Coast match after that shocking decision.

Agreed. But they won't.
This world cup has had a few ref mistakes.
Admitting to one means admitting to all
Still more interested in seeing what they do about Suarez.

TBH we don't really know if Suarez actually bit him.
Sure his reputation would say so, but no actual footage of a "bite"
His head goes in a downward motion but there is no definitive proof there was a bite.
Chiellini's shoulder was very slightly red. Could have got that same redness from his chin hitting his shoulder.
No actual footage, unlike the Ivanovic situation.

Don't get me wrong. It's disgraceful. And I hope he doesn't get banned so we can f#ck him off to Barca.
If he does get banned then we'll be forced to hold and hope we can get more than a pack of salt n vinegar chips for the bloke once his ban is up.
