Found out the other day that I'm about 2-5 years away from being a member since my application date was on the 11th of December of 1996, last intake was from the 1st of November 1995 - the 31st of March 1996 and they only do one intake a year usually around July.

Is anyone else from this forum a member? and if so how good is it?

KoopKicka

wow that waiting list is crazy :o

In Adelaide for Oval Membership its 5 years max, but we know the CEO and Finance Officer so my Dad and I only had to wait 2 years :) Had it for 5 years now and love every second of it. All the fancy dining and crap.

I can imagine for the MCC it would be massively crazy. :o

Wow thats pretty cool bet you'll be there for the first AFL match there.

I was in the last intake, been waiting nearly 18 years after being put down at birth. I go quite often as a guest though. It's definitely worth it, especially if you like the cricket as well as the footy. I would reckon you're 2-3 years away but hard to tell. As a kid we used to say it takes 15 years but has taken longer than that now. Once you get it though you'll appreciate it given how long you've had to wait.

I am surprised you know how long before you'll get in.

I think you'll be in before that. Why do you think it'll be 2 - 5 years?

If those who have been on since earlier in your year of application are getting on now, then you should expect to be called sooner than 2 - 5 years. The attrition rate can't be that slow.

If you think you'll be 5 years then imagine those who only got on the waiting list 5 years ago!!

PS Buy some jeans that aren't frayed and a shirt with a collar.

The intake before this one was about 2-3 months worth of applicants and I reckon 5 years should be the maximum that I'll have to wait.

what is it, and why is it so important?

:o

It's a lot of money though, so you have to go often to make it worthwhile.

no, seriously though?
Melbourne Cricket Club Membership. Really it's just a a membership for the MCG but you have to wait around 18 years and is considered kinda elite. If you ever watch the footy or cricket it's the area with all the green seats. Google it  :P

Spite

"There are currently more than 233,000 people on the waiting list. "

I think the wait will creep closer to the 30 year mark if you haven't got your name down yet. I would be very very surprised if they turn over about 10k members a year and that would be 23 years :O

start signing up your grandkids people.

When I saw MCC I immediately thought Marylebone Cricket Club, thus Lord's membership which is normally a 30+ year wait. Did anyone else think the same or was that only me? :-[

Once you're a member can you stay a member for the rest of your life? They should have like a 10 year limit or something so more people can get the chance to be a member.
