it was a decade that did have some really good players in it but only managing 48 wins over 10 years

What did you feel like supporting the team during that time and did you still continue supporting the team because if you did your a true loyal supporter of this team that has had minimal success and tough times

*** i would take it that not everyone on here was born around in the 80's but if you have relatives ask them how they felt supporting the team during that decade.

You can just ask the Melbourne supporters what it's like barracking for them now lol

This was very much true. Still rate him as the best player I ever saw live.

48 wins in 10 years. Didn't realise it was so few, but it was definitely tough. As a young bloke at the time I got frustrated a lot and nearly switched teams a few times, but as you observed, we had some champion players who I loved watching. Harvey, Burke, Winmar, Loewe and Plugger in particular.

I think one thing that has been lost in recent years is that back in those days the Saints were a lot of people's second team. They played attractive footy at times, but without success.

It was sh!t...but mixed with some good memories. Wins were sweeter because there was fewer of them.
I was at Victoria Park when we scored 3.11.29 to Collingwood's 31.21.207 at Victoria Park...stayed in the outer till the final siren...caught the train home copping abuse from Pie fans for much of the way. That was 1979 though.
I was at Footscray the day Templeton kicked 15 goals against St.Kilda for the Dogs to win 33.15.213 to St.Kilda's 16.10.106. Stayed to the final siren there too. Dog fans were happy with their team and didn't feel the need to rub it in my face. That was 1978 though...not 80s.
During the 80s it was much the same. Beltings at Princes Park were predictable and wins away anywhere were virtually non-existent. Moorabin was a great place to watch the footy and I loved going there every time we played even though we'd only win 2-3 times a year against the likes of Fitzroy, Melbourne or North.
Favourite players to watch in the 80s were Barker, Cunningham, Burns and later in that decade Lockett, Loewe, Harvey, Burke and Winmar. Also remember Robbie Muir fondly and laughed at Mark "Jacko" Jackson.
