Seen a few other team boards fire this up. Let's see what we've got going here. This isn't just for best 22 talk though, think breakouts, depth and even discuss the VFL side. Anything that doesn't fit in the drafting etc thread can go in here.

I'll post my best 22 one of these days, but a lad I wanna talk about is Brett O'Hanlon.

I reckon him, along with Matty McDonough should start getting some games next year. Push-Up and Az will probably be gone in a year or two and these guys are good long term forward replacements imo. The BigFooty lads seem to rate him, as do I. I'll be monitoring him closely in 2014 I think.

TeeJay

Morris, Rance, Grimes
Houli, Chaplin, Conca
Ellis, Jackson, Newman
Martin, Vickery, Edwards
King, Riewoldt, Hampson

Maric, Cotchin, Deledio

Int: vlastuin, a.edwards, grigg s: foley

Then you have 10+ players that could come straight in. Great depth at Richmond. They are my smokey for the flag

Woah, I didn't realise Aaron Edwards was so old, I think he adds a lot to your forward line, when he came in you guys looked really dangerous when it was sent inside 50. I think that best 22 is pretty spot on, who would be the unlucky ones with that team?

Guys like Chappy, Newy, Push-Up, Az and Axel don't have too long left in them. Somebody like Grigg will eventually be squeezed out with our younger midfielders coming in.

Guys like McBean, McDonough, Pick 12, Cadeyn (the studly young lad on our rookie list), O'Hanlon (hopefully) will soon become regulars.

Faaark... Totally forgot about some of these lads.  :-X

Our depth is the best it's been in so long.

Knights, if fit, is best 22 for us... I reckon he'd replace a guy like Az in the team tbh. Griff/Ast/Dea/Batch are all good depth... Ricky too, although as much as a I love him, I'm beginning to think his future with us is going to be short-lived. He's just not as effective enough as some of the other lads to cement a 22 spot.

I think most best 22's are really strong but that very rarely means 100% of the outcomes and depth is probably as important and not sure that depth is especially strong.

Just throwing hypotheticals (because I don't know too much) what happens when either Riewoldt or Chaplin/Rance goes down?

What about Astbury, what's he been doing?

We have guys who could replace them if they did, but it would mean shuffling a few lads around and changing the structure of things a little. I think these guys are such big personalities off the field because they're pretty popular blokes at the club that they'd be missed in the same way on field (if that makes sense).

As for Ast, he's got the potential to be a good player, but he hasn't quite been able to lock down a 22 spot, there was talk about him maybe being trade bait this period. I reckon that we might move him on next season.

Richmonds depth is very solid I would say. Any team would be stuffed if thy lost their full back, centre half back and full forward but if one was to go down of Rance or chappy, grimes could comfortably hold a key position post in the back line. And then guys like dea, batchelor, griffiths or astbury could fill grimes position as 3rd tall defender. All very capable players.

Up forward if jack went down the forward line still looks ok with vickers, az Edwards and Hampson as our main targets. We also have a lot of capable midfielders playing out of the midfield that could cover for someone like Cotchin going down. Foley, Ellis, Conca etc would all just have to spend more time in there.

Think we're pretty sweet unless there is a mass of injuries. Touch wood that doesn't happen though

Bit of wishful thinking on my part, but any chance of McBean replacing Vickery at FF?

Don't think he'll push Vix out of the team, he played some good footy this year. I think McBean will become a regular when Maric retires or if Hampson doesn't perform as we hope he will...

It's tough though... Maric, Hampson, Riewoldt, Vickery, Aaron Edwards & McBean will be fighting it out for 5 spots I would say, at the moment I see McBean just missing out.

Things change though! :P
