MC

Forwards are very slim mate, I think Simpson is not worth his price tag in defence. Try to get a better F4 than Billings, perhaps you might need to reconsider having both GAJ and Pendles from the start? Difficult to have both without really weakening all other lines.

tor01doc

I would not want to be relying on Garlett to win me a match up.

He could be very vestable.

Agree with MC that Simpson seems to make your defence very expensive from day 1.

If you're planning a weak, wait and see forward line then OK I guess.

Love your mids and rucks 1 and 2.

GoLions

Who would you guys suggest to replace Simpson?
If there are a few backline rookies named round 1, I'll drop Simpson or Swallow for that rookie, and upgrade a forward to Pav (or other), which would make my forwards a lot better. Just more comfortable playing an extra forward rookie than a defence rookie atm I guess though

GoLions

More tinkering yet again, dropped some top end rookies and managed to strengthen my forwards. Ideally would prefer someone better at R1, but quite happy with this team for now. 25k left in the kitty.

def: Love the premiums you have selected. Like the POD in S.Thompson. Interesting choice of rookies but we will never know how good they are till the nab games!

mid: Pretty good mid. Again, love the premium players you have got there. Like that you have Garlett in your mids as it allows you to swap with players in your forwards who can also play in the mid.

ruck: Standard ruck. Hopefully Lobbe can finish as one of the top 4-5 ruckmans in the game.

fwd: Good to see that you have both Dangerfield and Martin in there. IMO, Gunston will step it up with the absence of Buddy. Bock has the potential to pump out sccores as Brent Staker did last year at a rookie type price. Not a fan of the Rohan pick however.

overall: Pretty good team GoLions! Good to see that your money has been evenly distributed.

Goodluck!

woah... no Lewis Taylor? Out of everyone, you were the last one that i expected not to have him ;) maybe taylor for rohan?.. Thats completely up to you! Goodluck again! :D

GoLions

I don't think Taylor will be getting early games, will probably play later in the year though. Only just brought in Rohan, although depending on rookie choices he could become a Billings or Fasolo.

Thanks mate :)

GoLions

Made a few more changes, gone with a 4 premium strategy in the mids and think this is looking pretty good. 6.4k remaining

Note: Fasolo, if not named, will become a Rohan, Billings, Bock, etc. (whoever is named round 1)

Ringo

Got much cash left GL

Got a concern on Beams whether he will play round 1 mate so need to have plan B,

Apart from that and no Zorko ;) not too bad at all

Just personal but not keen on Roughy and looks like he may be doing some ruck work and know he suffered from this in 2012.

GoLions

Yeah not much left Ringo, only 6.4k

If Beams isn't named then can bring in guys like Polec, Sheed, etc.

Haha I'll have my eye on Zorko but can't see him being a top 10 forward at this point

My F3 spot is still up for grabs, honestly have no idea who to put there  :-\

GoLions

Liking the look of this team, although still unsold on Buddy. First time he has been in my team all year, but someone like Gunston will suit my bye structure a bit more. However, Buddy is less of a risk as most people will be starting him I would imagine.

I have 6.9k left to spend, so not a lot.

My Chumps

Backline is a weird one. Thinking for the future, the ideal back line IMO would be Mitchell, Hanley, McVeigh, Walker, Bartel and then one of many options (incl. Thompson and Simpson). With your current structure you'd be missing out on potentially two (if you don't upgrade Suckling) of McVeigh/Walker/Bartel, which is far from a good thing! Those guys must be in your team by the end of the year and your current structure doesn't really make it easy, unless you're super confident about Thompson and Simpson stepping up into that 105+ territory.

GoLions

I think Bartel will drop this year (not sure if he'll average 100). Not sure on Walker, and with Mitchell/Simpson/Suckling locked in, it would kill me in the byes. McVeigh I feel is overpriced, but aim to have him in my team by the end of the year. I personally think Simpson will be a top 3-4 defender, so locking him in at that price. I think that apart from Mitchell, and probably McVeigh/Simpson, the next 9 or so defenders are going to be quite even, so I've gone for Thompson and Hanley as they suit my bye structure extremely well.

Baggers2012

I really like your team, looks neat. I was just wondering what are your thoughts (as a brisbane supporter) on Hanley, Beams & Leuenberger?

I've had Hibberd locked since day dot just about and im struggling for a replacement, I too believe McVeigh is somewhat overpriced, I aim to have him at some stage but not from round 1, Im worried about Hanley copping the tag, and his average against the best sides (considering they have a tough start). That just leaves the group around 401k-436k, Grimes, Watts & Pearce, don't think any of them will be top 8 defenders come years end. PS this defender spot has to be from R10 for bye structure. Try and convince me to get Hanley! haha  :-\

considering Tyson to Beams to free up 35k.

Leuey is the only ruckman 500k+ that i am considering, would love your thoughts, and the influence West may have on him

Cheers. Very good side.

Hanley- Against teams outside the 8, he tonned up in 8/12 games, with some massive scores in there. Other 4 games were 83, 71 (injured in 2nd quarter, sub already used though), 80 and a 55 (subbed). So, excluding his injury affected games, he averaged just over 114 against teams outside the 8.
Against the top 8 teams, he only tonned up once, which is a worry. But, this included scores of 93, 91, 95, and 86. He also copped a bad knock against geelong which highly impacted his TOG. And his 49 when tagged by Macaffer  :-\
Ended up averaging a touch over 86 if you take out the game against the Cats where he copped the massive bump from SJ.
So excluding his injury affected games, he went under 80 twice for the year (one of which was a 79).

Beams- Is probably competing with the likes of Aish and I think Robertson (and someone else I'm forgetting) for 2 spots in our team. At the moment I'd have him in our best 22, and has proven before that he can score well (last 3 games in 2012 he scored 80, 103, 115). If he's named round 1, I think he's just about a must-have.

Leuenberger- Tonned up in 10/20 games, which is pretty decent considering it was his first year back from doing his achilles. Went under 80 3 times in the year, with scores of 79, 79, 58 (no idea what happened there). So he should be a very consistent ruck IMO, ideal for the set-and-forget strategy. Also has a habbit of kicking goals, kicking 9 goals and 9 behinds for the year. With West joining the team, I see him getting more goals up forward (which means more points). This should see him increase his average by a couple ppg, along with the fact that he will be fitter this year in comparison to last year.

Just remember though, I am probably a tad bias haha :P

Cheers for the write up mate, great work.
Hanley - im just not convinced, the stat's don't lie, it would be a lot easier if they had the likes of GWS, Melbourne & St.Kilda early on!
Beams v Tyson - Tyson's JS has me leaning his way, will be an important part of the dee's midfield, though, as you mentioned, beams scoring potential is quite good for a rookie priced player, probably better than Tyson's. If i new he wasn't going to get dropped or vested i would have him over Tyson. Wait and see, but Tyson for now.
Leuenberger - Seriously considering, like you said, should be fitter than last year, will only improve. If i go with a prem/mid price strategy, it will be Leuey I think.

Sorry to get off track, back to rating his team!
